Cave Story, Binding of Isaac and Shovel Knight are three games that have earned their spot on the pantheon of indie games, Hollow Knight by all means deserves to be among them, it's just that good.

I don't think I've played a better Metroidvania since the good old times where the 3rd dimension wasn't standard.

I was never a fan of the series, I never liked the first one and skipped the second one entirely, the ruthlessness of their combat did not appeal to me in the first place and I was never too tolerant to frustration. Yet this game somehow caught my attention and made me reconsider playing the previous ones. As it turned out I was judging the game entirely for its difficulty and completely ignoring other aspects of the game that make it great and an instant classic (at least for me) this game captures the essence of metroidvanias of old.

PROS:
+ Lore-rich immersive world
+ Lots of customization, builds, choices to make and shape your character.
+ Combat is rewarding once you git gud.
+ Well crafted levels.
+ Fun multiplayer.

CONS:
- Steep learning curve.
- Ocassional frame drops in certain areas.
- UI and controls not friendly for Keyboard/Mouse users.

After something like 70 hours on Terraria I didn't think this kind of game could surprise me anymore, but then I found a planet with a thematic dungeon with actual lore related to it, that alone reactivated my hunger for exploration.

10/10 for space explorers.

It's like going to Australia, but now with friends.
