Game performs so poorly that I would genuinely have a better experience sending packets by the Post office.

A charming little game from a small studio that has a lot to offer if you enjoy story driven games with story relevant mechanics.

11/13 Solid game for.

Yet another game that needs a neutral option.

If you have a regular play group it's OK.

If you do not have a regular group you will be playing against 50% cheaters and 50% people who get lucky with the 'wacky' physics, while you never do.

This is a solid Metroidvania title, and absolutely worth the price.

The biggest complaint I have is the ending seemed either rushed, or intended to setup a sequel

I really wanted to love this game, and I wish steam had a neutral rating.

The core concept is solid. The music sounds great.
What draws me to neutral territory is: The game's UI, music, and moment to moment gameplay directly fight against the core concept of the game.

UI:
Everything is on the far edge of the screen, while your character remains fully centered.
Music:
Half of the songs do not have a discernible beat; Don't get me wrong, the songs themselves are great, they just don't all make for the best backing for a rhythm game.

The two of these things combined mean that unless you have the game's metronome enabled, which means you're not really hearing the music and might as well disable it.
The mechanics of Combat fight against the music.

Some helpful things here would be:
A more centered way to see the beat timing; Such as a closing circle around the player character for beats, and some on-character indicator for dashes or melee swings.
Enemy telegraphs "growing" or becoming more "Menacing" with the beats as they pass. As an example for a Line shot - the line starts short and green, growing and turning more red as it becomes closer to firing.

I've waited nearly a decade for this game to be released.

In that time I've seen dozens of retro style games come and go. Some I love, some I don't care for but get their appeal, and some I loathe. This game falls solidly into the middle camp.

When I bought this game it was charming, had an honestly great feel to combat, and just generally felt like something I would get tons of play time out of.

Now that it's out I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed. The moment to moment gameplay is fine. Not top tier, but passable. The first boss you face is great. Feels well fleshed out, with mechanics that mostly make sense and can be managed. EVERY SINGLE OTHER BOSS suffers from the same problem - Spam all the adds & HP bloat. Every single other boss has the same basic pattern - Here's a big attack to avoid, now kill all of these adds, now avoid these rot zones on the floor, repeat.

Don't let my playtime fool you, that's time scattered over almost 10 years.
I can honestly say that I would have refunded this game if I had bought it on launch.

Pros:
Very well executed pixel graphic style
Fluid movement
Some attacks double as traversal leading to interesting sequence breaks if performed well
Exploration feels great
Puzzles, such as they exist, are passable.

Cons:
The combat itself feels more like a chore than a core mechanic with numerous "kill X enemies on this screen to advance" zones - complete with impassible walls - spawned enemies.

A genuinely enjoyable experience.

If you like Deadcells, Blaze Blue, or just love Platforming roguelites this game will absolutely scratch the itch.
---
Pros:
Tight controls
Moderately interesting meta progression system
Well animated characters
Great music
Moderate collection of characters to choose from

Cons:
Some visual clarity is lost due to the over-the-top player effects on some characters

Neutral:
Some of the localization seems machine translated. As a loose example "The fire of the weapon increases the fire done by the weapon"

Don't buy unless you're OK with them taking away your purchase a few years down the road.
