Early Access Review
Updated after launch:
Full Offline is back again but none of your per-order bonuses will exist if you choose this route.
All promised classes are present.

The game consumes 10GB of RAM and 100% GPU time unless you block it at the Firewall Level while playing Full offline - attempting to report this as a bug got me banned from the discord [literally, the only post I made was a bug report] so take that as you will.
Trying to make a Similar thread in the steam discussions and it never got approved.

The story is still incomplete; Game is missing 3 of 12 chapters.

Am I enjoying the game? Yes. Absolutely.
Would I recommend the game to friends? Only if they own it already but were on the fence.

Given the MTX pricing I fully expect they will eventually make this game Free to Play. I would wait for that day if you don't already own it.

Updating after a very long time waiting, and seeing development pathways.

They've added MTX to the game before adding all of the classes or the full story.

They've changed the base experience from "Single player offline" to "Always online even for 'offline'"

The devs plan to support the "online" of the game with macro transactions (think POE, but not stash tabs [yet]).

That's an automatic "We're done developing, here's the game as it will be in perpetuity" sign to me. This also changes my 'final thoughts' on the game from "would recommend" to "wait for an extremely deep discount". wait for it to go free to play.
---
Pros:
Responsive dev team
Solid ARPG for the current price of admission
Crafting system is simple but has depth
Each class feels unique

Cons:
Current stat spread suffers from common ARPG issues of "too many different stats"
Numerous non-viable builds exist, and there are several 'traps' that will catch newer players out
"Talent" systems are bloated and a significant amount of information dump, but choices are largely illusionary

When you play poorly the game punishes you heavily for it.
When you play well the game punishes you heavily for it.
If you're a die-hard Megaman fan, and absolutely must have this game wait for it to go on sale.

Just one more loop and then I'll head to bed...
Wait, why is the sun coming up?

Pros:
Quick to get in
Most things are explained well
Creepy-cute design

Cons:
Often left with no option except to die
Explosive enemies
Game thinks "5" is "4" for a specific item.

This game is, essentially, an extremely boiled down aRPG. You build up your stats, find new gear, and tackle rooms while trying to reach the next one alive.

If you're a streamer who plays competitive games, and need a good queue game, you can't really go wrong here.

If you like roguelikes with simple mechanics, also a solid game.

Overall I would rate this 6/10. It's a cute little game, but it doesn't have the staying power of other Roguelikes. Good for a few hours of play. This is a great buy if you can get it for $10 or less, otherwise you might want to wait.

EDIT: I am upgrading my rating on this from 6 to 8 based entirely on the devs willingness to address the flaws that have been reported in the game. Everything else stands as is.

There's a lot to love about the game.
It makes wonderful use of some of the abandoned Paragon assets.
The soundtrack is actually lovely and fits the mood of the game precisely.
The gunplay is some of the best I've ever encountered in an FPS, entirely by virtue of the mechanics of the game.

That said, the combination of Rhythm and Shooter isn't fully realized here.
You are rhythm locked for dodges, attacking, and reloading, while enemies (except bosses) do not seem to have that same limitation.
It's often hard to 'find the rhythm' within a level
While I love the music there are moments where I wish more effort was spent on polishing the tracks to fit the expectations of the game itself.
I do wish there was more variety in how the characters feel, and that their abilities were not locked behind playthroughs.

Even with its flaws it is an absolutely good time, and for the price most players will get their money's worth out of it.

The controls are a bit awkward on keyboard/mouse at first but you'll soon get used to moving. Controller handles exactly like you would expect it to, though there is some awkwardness in selection quickbar slots.

It's quite serene and a great 'chill' game.

Edited after the Seamless world update.
It feels much better traversing the world with seamless. So far all it's done is improve an already solid game.
Still a definite recommend.

I gave this game another hour or two recently.

To start - both of my existing characters were thrown back at the 'main story' despite having reached endgame previously, and all of my gear was flagged as "old gear. May not work".
Fair enough I thought, I'll start from scratch then.

The core gameplay is still about the same. It's fun to a point, but the more I played the more something just felt off. When it clicked I realized that it was because everything was excessively stiff; More so than I had remembered.

You might find enjoyment here, but the original review still stands.

If you want this, wait for a deep discount.

This game feels like it's 80% in all ways.

80% complete
80% fun
80% bugs
80% frustrating to deal with
etc

Buggy, boring end game play loop, and constant nerfs to what is, ostensibly, a single player game. The game had a lot of promise, and the style is top notch, but I just cannot get past the basic flaws.

After a point items stop leveling with you leaving you in a state where the game cannot be played unless you decide to go the mod route.

Pretty solidly on the Metroid side of Metroidvania and very solid gameplay.

my one complaint is it felt a little on the short side.

It's a spectacle shooter at its core, and it does that very well.
If that's your thing this is absolutely worth the price.

If you were expecting a Classic Doom/Doom 64 style of game this isn't it.
You're in luck though because effectively every other Doom game exists on Steam right now.
