The Erdtree is sadly overshadowed by some performance issues:
- FPS capped to 60, but "feels" less sometimes. Rarely dips into 40-50 FPS, lowest or max settings don't matter.
- Noticeable micro-stuttering
- Still no ultra-wide support (black-bars)
- No DLSS / No Frame generation
They had so much time to upgrade the technical side of the game, especially for PC players, and they did not use the chance. Using mods to fix said problems were developed ages ago, and will unfortunately result in a BAN from online play!

Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, Trident Z Neo 32 GB DDR4-3600 (B-Die, XMP enabled), RTX 4080 (latest drivers), installed on SSD
Resolution: 1440p
My CPU usage is <40% while playing the game.

The game is super fun and i encourage everyone to play it! I explored big parts of the DLC already. My opinion on the technical state of the game remains unchanged. The desire to have DLSS/Frame generation obviously makes sense with an uncapped framerate.
Micro-stuttering comes and goes. Slowdown during boss fights still happen occasionally.

They announced an in-game store one month after launch, with purchasable cosmetics for real money. Steam still has no info on their store page that in-game micro transactions will be a thing. False advertisement on a full-priced game? Yes, it's 2024.
Simply, would i have bought the game, if i knew there was micro transaction in the game, next to the already existing 1-year pass (for new characters)?
No i wouldn't have bought it. Therefor i do NOT recommend the game!

...while the actual game is really fun and polished.

Early Access Review
As i work and serve my cats in real life, this game is a welcome change where animals actually work for ME!

The game is fun. It's basically ARK without PVP, combined with Pokemon and the aesthetics of Breath of the Wild. It feels polished and pretty much bug-free for an early access title. From the start it's addicting, you build a base and start capturing pals. The sense of progression is there from the start and keeps you motivated. BUT... unfortunately the game slows down heavily in mid-game and turns into a CRUEL GRIND in late-game. The game loop is pretty much clear in the first couple of hours and doesn't change, seriously don't expect any surprises.
The game world is huge, but sadly it is soulless. There are tiny villages, more like a bunch of shacks and irrelevant NPCs, and it's easy to ignore them. Unlike BotW every new area feels unmotivated: maybe a different biome, new pals, new bosses, but i don't remember seeing anything that really caught my attention. Traversing that huge world is sadly way too slow, despite upgrading my pals constantly and using their riding/flying abilities. Really i wish the game had ended sooner... but it's early access and hopefully they will improve the game later.

Relaxing climbing game with a great variety of environments and subtle story-telling that kept me curious the entire time and eager to reveal the worlds mysteries. The visuals are stunningly beautiful and the music is just magical. Recommended!

Masterful remake of a truly legendary game. It's so much fun!
Runs perfect on the Steam Deck!
About always-online: Must be online during launch of the game, after that you can turn your internet off. Use a mobile hotspot if you must. Not a big deal. Seriously it's ridiculous to give an outstanding game a negative review just because of that...

Remake? Hmmm it feels old. Graphics/Artstyle is great, but that's it! Gameplay is only partially fun, gets worse the further you progress. Combat feels super random, varying damage with guns and melee attacks. Loot from crates is also random. Very linear structure, there is backtracking(!), but there are also areas that become inaccessible. It's something you can't predict. It becomes annoying when you still have points of interest on your map, but can't get there anymore. Boss mechanics never felt good. If that's how the original game was, then it's just not for me. And i enjoyed RE1, RE2 Remake and RE Village.
