It's a pretty good game, especially if you like PVE, grinding, RNG and all that. The main issue and reason for the majority of negative reviews was the overall end game once you reach level 30. The latest 1.4 patch has delivered most of what the people were asking for, and certainly to me this has fixed any issue I had with the end game.

Sekhat Temporus goes into great detail of what to expect in this reviews comments.

@bronze189 it's an RPG so bullet sponginess is expected (since bullets do a given amount of damage). But it's no where near where it was. It used to take many multiple of clips of ammo to defeat elite, non-heavy enemies. Now, it takes about 1 to 1.5 clips.

If you go into this game expecting a realistic damage model shooter, you will be disappointed.

still has massive bullet spnge problem in PVE so i dont think i would ever reccomend this game to anyone unless they like hardcore PVP survival contnent and even then its not worth the ammount of money they ask for unless its for a huge discount because of the anoying PVE content and how bad it is.

Yeah, I was a huge fan of Destiny - played almost 1,000 hours on Xbox. This seems to follow the same formula, probably going to end up buying the expansions anyway haha.
Just bought R6 Siege, so I'll wait and see how it goes.

@Pyrotek

The survival mode is also in a middle of a massive snow storm, it's really cold, and you have to build up cold resistance by making/looting clothing.

PVP and PVE modes of survival are available, and the mode gives you gear caches (crates that when opened in your inventory give you random items) as rewards, which in survival each cache will contain between 2 and 4 pieces of gear.

Rewards in this mode, come in two types: Rewards based on score (up to 4 caches depending on how well you do) and rewards based on what you loot in the survival modes Darkzone and extract with, in other words, you need to find these and successfully finish the survival mode (upto 6 sealed caches).

In conclusion then, to answer your question simply:

No, the season pass isn't required, but you'll be missing out on some of the two biggest activities added to the game via the DLC's you'd get with it.

@Pyrotek

As for survival, this is a 24 man activity. So you have to matchmake to get in. This dumps you in a modfied version of the main world map, you start off with next to nothing and have to gather materials, craft gear and clothing and make your way to the darkzone to extract.

Difficulty is added here with a few special mechanics for the mode. Hunger, Thirst and Infection. Hunger and Thirst will affect your ability to do things, and must be sated/quenched with food and drink. The infection, on the other hand, is basically an hour timer. When that reaches zero, you die. The infection timer can be halted by using medicine.

@Pyrotek So in terms of gear, you'll get all of that without the season pass. What you won't have access to though, are the underground and survival game modes.

Underground, is basically, procedually generated missions. It's good fun, but the procedual generation works much like Diablos. There is a bucket full of prebuilt area's that it connects together randomally. Which means, eventually, you'll have seen all the pieces.

However, you can mix things up a bit in underground, with the phases and directives. The more phases you add, the more back to back underground missions you have to do for a successful run, and Directives add modifiers to the experience to make it more difficult.

In both cases, rewards are increased.

With that being said there is plenty of content without it. It's moreso good to have once you reach Level 30, where all the main and side missions are done. That has to be a few dozen hours. Once you get to that point, you'll want the expansions.

I would highly recommend to, the Underground and the new Survival expansion are great to have. A game like this can get repetitive at the end game so it's good to have more ways to play it.

Hey, I just wanted to ask - If I buy the game now, should I buy the season pass along with it? Or does the base game still give you access to most weapons/features/endgame content.
Thanks :)
