Grand Theft Auto 5 is undoubtedly one of the best games out there. A multiple sales record holder and a game that if you don't know about it you probably live under a rock. This game is consisted of 2 parts. The story mode which is the base game. And the online mode which is pretty much a whole different game.
The story mode was pretty good, remarkable characters, 3 of them playable, tons of content, vehicles, weapons, activities, businesses (not as good as online's but they are there) and numerous Easter eggs and secrets. The story was okay, not too complicated or boring but nothing extreme either. I like the characters as personalities more than the path they followed in the story. There are many missions, most are short, others too easy, but fun. 3 endings to choose between. Even if it wasn't the most intriguing story I have ever seen I still remember it and laugh at some funny quotes or moments. All in all I believe that paying for the story mode alone is good money spent and I don't think anyone would regret it.

For the online part I will just say that it has double the content of story mode, lots of missions, businesses (with even more missions), heists (they are missions but more badass), short events, and even more vehicles to choose from. If you know what you are doing and have fun with it you won't see this as a boring grinding game, but as a fun money-gathering simulator. Who would have thought that a CEO of an office would serve as a delivery boy. Well, in this game it's possible. The player base is pure manure but if you have friends to play with and know how to deal with all of 'em griefers you are gonna have fun and you will like it. Summing up, I believe that the online part is not as bad as they used to say it is and it's great to play after you finish the story mode.
