Committee of Zero Patch worthwhile?
Whoever runs the twitter handle for Committee of Zero claims the official translation "fails to capture the personality and ambiance of the original", but also complains about "untranslated Japanese" and translator notes. If I want a less liberal translation, do I apply the Committee of Zero patch or stick with the official translation?

I'd definitely wait for the patch. While you'd certainly be able to read the entire thing without it, the experience would be greatly improved with the patch. I didn't wait for the patch with Robotics;Notes, and I regret not having waited for it. Not to disrespect the official localizers, but they're not as intimately familiar with this series as The Committee of Zero.

The patch is much better. The committee has done other sciadv patches and that makes the experience more enjoyable. You can play it without it, but I would suggest to wait.

As someone who has the other games on console (haven't played them yet, though, because I wanted this first), and usually prefer to use official localizations..... I'd say Committee of Zero seems to be the way to go on this one. Just based on how they're talking, they seem to know the series (and especially this game) much better than the translators did. Not even joking or exaggerating, they posted a screenshot showing a TIP in the official release, where it basically says "this is a Japanese meme that doesn't translate well into English, and using English memes would be embarrassing, so we cut it out completely"..... Yeah, I think I'd rather trust the fans, who will almost certainly find a proper way of reworking things so it fits, instead of being lazy and cutting stuff completely, lol

Eh, the Committee of Zero tends to greatly exaggerate their complaints with the translations. Their translation will probably be better, if only in terms of consistency with the other games, but I think the official translation should still be good enough for most people.

However, if the port is the same as the Switch port, it will be censored compared to the original X360 version of the game (at least two routes were significantly affected because they had too much gore), so you probably should wait for their patch anyway.

This article talks a lot about the localization quality, with many screenshots and examples:

I've no idea why all SciAdv games except for OG S;G are so poorly localized, it's baffling.

Not really. CoZ is absolutely right about all of it. Sure, the translations may be readable, but the important part is the accuracy to the original Japanese: you can't really tell it without actually comparing the two side-by-side.

You'll be losing out on a lot from the story. Little mistranslations stack up when there's so many, and that's not even including the bigger ones that they messed up on. You may "get" the story with the official TL, but there's just so much in the details that will be absolutely maimed by the official TL.

I'll wait for the Committee of Zero patch before I play Noah. After all, I've already waited a lot for this. ;)

Some reviewers have actually complained that the translation is simplistic and at times robotic in delivery as per most of the previous games too, so I would personally just wait for the patch which is actually done by fans of the series and who care for authenticity/consistency. Including they also translate background stuff for the reader and other fluff that the main translators for the game ignore so the experience is even better. Not to mention the game is censored tmk so you'd be missing things even more things without the patch.

So it comes down to basically do you want the barebones experience or the full package as originally intended.

Absolutely it is for this game.
It's also great for every other game they did a patch for but for this one it's pretty much necessary due to this particular version that got localized.
If you don't want to play the game censored wait for the patch.

CoZ translated pregnant man to manchild. If you think that these guys are high quality then you're just dumb.

Same, I'll wait for the patch. It seems like Chaos series needs them more than S;G one. After such a long wait to finally have it localised waiting couple more weeks is a piece of cake.
I don't mind the translation part that much, I'm more curious to play the game with all the story important cut content.

I mean, maybe they're right, but in the KKB review for example they don't really show any mistranslations, they just say that there are many of them and criticize other flaws of the translation. (although going more into details would have been hard without spoiling the game, I guess)

I read Robotics;Notes Elite first with their patch and then I watched someone play the game without their patch, and honestly while there certainly were mistakes in the official translation (e.g. the infamous mistranslation of Takumi's name, many of the Tweeps being weirdly written, some consistency issues...) it wasn't as bad as they said.

But again I still think waiting for their patch is better.

Okay, yeah, I just read their justification for this and I'm gonna have to pass on their patch now.

Contextually it absolutely makes sense though. It's @channel that comes up with the case names. @channel will absolutely make up some memey name for it, and Manchild certainly is one that has that kind of snappy wittiness you'd expect.

No..it would still be pregnant man. If you want to go full edgy then it'd be the t word that's referred to transexual people in a harmful way. Sorry but they lost all of my credibility with that terrible explanation.
