Here's what I had planned for a little New Year update based on some feedback from the comments and things I missed in the "Final Version":

- Fixing color correction for real this time (moving it to the proper /materials folder as part of the GMod asset security update from January 2024)
- Reducing the "startup" music to just one 20 second "stinger". It's become apparent that the music goes on longer than most would like and happens every map startup, and that having to rely on console commands to turn it off is too cumbersome. For people that are making videos or other sandbox content, it's also a pain to deal with so I'm happy to adjust that
- Fixing some missing lighting and inconsistencies on the night version
- Floating light poles in the shipment area not touching the ground
- More optimization passes and adjustments to performance to help with a consistent experience
- Tweaking fog and other visual elements

@Penoltinum, That's very kind of you, and your ZS version (which I didn't get to chance to experience much unfortunately) made the most of a pretty messy and crazy layout which wasn't really built around ZS anyway, so I applaud your efforts for getting it out there.

If you'd like to revisit it and make an updated version, I was planning on making a few minor updates and pushing out a slightly revised version of this "GM" one for the new year. Haven't had a chance to touch GMod or Source mapping much but I'm still interested. I'll be in touch if I get around to actually starting this so you can go off of this new version to have the latest fixes. If I don't get around to it sometime this month you're free to start as well based on your own timeline.

I just noticed you credited me for editing your map for zs (or I did before but I might have forgotten lol).
Scrap metal is one of the best maps I have ever experienced on gmod and the zs version didn't do enough justice to make it suitable for it (to be fair, I also kinda rushed it). I might come back to it and finish up what I started

Looks like the January GMod update just dropped addressing color correction files in maps! Unfortunately for this one, the .raw file is packed at the root path of the map, and not in "materials/", so it'll still be broken for now. I'll see if I can address this in a future update (as well as a few small bugs and fixes that have been noticed post final edition) if this is how color correction files will be handled going forward.

Just a heads up. I first heard about this from some folks at Sunrust, but it appears the latest GMod December update has broken color correction by impacting .BSP whitelisting (files that can be loaded from a map file), preventing color correction files from being used. This will result in color correction being broken across the board for this map and many others. It's likely this change may get reverted, or there may be a more official way to mount color correction files in which I will update the map accordingly if need be. Stay tuned, and thanks for the continued support!

@Tickle Monster, The specific soundscape audio file that I referenced in that room is called "E3_lab.LabSounds". The actual song snippet is also referred to as "HL2 Song 10". Ended up reading some YT comments about it and people point to it being sampled from another song, "Cuckooland Ambience - Jungle Fire". @Apis, Officially, I didn't have a specific timeline or setting in Half-Life that this map takes place in. However, I ended up using a lot of Citadel PA soundscapes for the outdoor ambience. This was sort of unintentional as I wanted the other background noises of a city, helicopters, vehicles, etc. and didn't have many other options. Always happy to see different people's takes on the setting and stories created around that

@Hash Browndicoot, sorry about the late reply. I didn't have the chance to test this on my end until now. I was able to run the dev console command (~) with sv_cheats set to both 0 and 1 in a singeplayer game. I'm guessing this command won't work on a multiplayer server or other scenarios as "ent_fire" is usually a dev command for triggering specific entities or logic.

You could also try "stopsound" in the dev console to stop ALL sounds currently playing, although this wouldn't stop future music tracks (there's 3 that play after the first player loads the map).

I'll keep this in mind in the future and either create a better, more consistent way of turning off music, or only use a short snippet and leave out lengthier tracks. I definitely get that they can interfere and there isn't a built in way to change music volume level, so thanks for bringing that up as it was something I had left in from 2013

@Kawoofish got it see can never really find or figure out the whole npc spawner on gmod cause i've seen maps that have had them just don't know how they really do it

@SaveThePandas43, i didn't make any of the videos nor do I usually run through those kinds of scenarios. From my experience, a lot of those examples will have pre-placed NPCs for combat. I have used in the past NPC spawner addons that can spawn random NPCs in different areas to create waves of enemies if that's what you're looking for

@Hunter-Chopper, I believe they're in there last I remember, but not sure if I fully tested them and got them working. For reference, I remember I borrowed the Strider nodes from gm_construct. So they should work on the main roads outside of the main buildings. Otherwise let me know and I could add it to a list of changes for a small update later this year

im personally glad this is back, i remember this map fondly and when i couldnt find it i felt sad, reading the discussion thread i can understand why it was gone for a while, im glad it wasnt deleted
