Description
Adds the Phoenicians to the game.

UPDATE:

Trait now expires upon discovering Navigation for better balance.
Merchant Trader can now pass through rival territory without need of open border agreements.

Trait: Purple Riches. +2 Gold from Trading Posts and Merchant specialists. Sources of Dyes produce double quantities.

UU: Phoenician Trader. Naval version of the Great Merchant unit, which it replaces. +33% gold from Trade Missions with city states.

UB: Phoenician Lighthouse. +1 Gold and Science from worked water tiles in addition to usual Lighthouse bonuses. Allows water connections (like Harbours), but available much earlier in the game, after researching Sailing.

I've not been able to do as much artwork as I'd have liked to have done, my skills in that area being somewhat limited, but hopefully there's enough there to make it playable :)

Actually, Pjoenician colonies (like Greek) colonies were independent the moment they were founded and only had an emotional tie with their metropolis (founder city).

As someone pointed out on page 3 of the comments section, Carthage was a Phoenician colony that later became independent.

@killmeplease I've tried a few different things with the great merchant, but part of the trouble is adjusting some aspects solely for that one unit is problematic, due to the GameDefines.

I'll keep fiddling though to see what works and stays balanced with the rest of the game :)

i love the idea of great merchant UU! is it possible to give it 2 trade missions? (with reduced amount of gold per each, maybe)

Actually, scrub that - the bonus is applied to resources, regardless of whether they have been improved or not. I'll get this right at some point :-S

@Vernontan The additional bonus applies to improved resources, not all water tiles. I'll have to change the description to clarify that, as it does appear to suggest that any worked water tile would receive it as well.
