RenHydrogenBalance

Description
A small change to hydrogen consumption rates.

It effectively reduces hydrogen drain by 20x to make it more practical on my server. I'm publishing it for easier usage for my users, but anybody is free to use it.

Explanation of how it works:
- Keen's hydrogen engines actually use power (watts) to produce thrust, just like atmo/ion thrusters
- The power comes from hydrogen, which has a multiplier called EnergyDensity (which defaults to 0.001556 at this time)
- I'm changing that multplier to 0.03112, so hydrogen makes 20x as much energy, and is thus consumed 20x slower

Anyhow, a fuel tank that previously lasted 30 seconds will now last 10 minutes with this mod.

I've verified that it still works today. It's likely that previous report about it not working with large thrusters was just Space Engineers shenanigans. Powercycling the grid might fix it if that happens again. The mod basically only changes consumption rates - it has nothing to do with the conveyor system or fuel delivery etc.

@cancer352 - Engines should still require hydrogen to operate; with the recent changes to hydrogen data on Keen's side it's likely now a 40x mod, which is a bit extreme. I might make an version of it that's only half as effective as this one was to compensate (it will be a different mod though). Note that if you turn your engines or inertial dampeners off, you can coast along for 0 fuel forever (well, until you hit something), even in stock. Engines only consume fuel or energy when they're actively pushing.

I'm on mars survival and without this mod I had to make an emergency landing due to the empty H2-tank only after 6 km. So a hydrogen mod is necessary.
1.) But this mod changes the astronaut's H2-consupmtion too, even that was ok before.
2.) When flying in space the engines consume now NO hydrogen even at 100 m/s. Is that intended or is that normal ?

I'm still using this mod scince it came out. Really have to say it still works and makes hydrogen ships so much more fun to play with. Most of my ships are hydrogen based if i play in singleplayer :D Massive thanks after all these years! Hope you update this mod once it breaks!

I've been using the mod on a coop survival. Works wonders for us so far. Might I also suggest a x10 version perhaps ? :D

SE has some constants that it uses for conversion that this changes, it should work fine with hydrogen thruster/tank mods as long as they make no changes to the constants themselves. I used it in the past with a couple of small tank mods.

Note that I haven't tested this in a while, it may be obsolete, although the patch notes haven't said anything that would suggest it would be to me. I *will* be testing it out, as soon as I can find the time.

Is this change 'hard coded' into the hydrogen formula, or is it a change in the hydrogen blocks themselves ? AKA would it be compatible with modded hydrogen thrusters/tanks?

Small grid.

I've seen this problem with large grid, but I can't remember if it was this same mod, but the issue looks the same: no flame or thrust from a large thruster like no fuel is getting to it despite conveyor links being OK. If the fuel needs to pass through it to reach small thrusters, the small thrusters still get it, but the large one doesn't.

Doesn't work with large hydrogen thrusters? Either one, or just large grid / large thrusters?
MekaDovah 16 Apr, 2018 @ 9:55am
For some reason when I use this mod fuel isn't routed to large hydrogen thrusters despite them being hooked up properly.

Makes hydrogen a good alternative.
