Description
- - War Drive - -
A new gamemode for Victory Point games, featuring Ambient Effects.
Presented by Janne252 and MonolithicBacon.

War Drive introduces Ambient Effects to skirmishes in Company of Heroes 2, which will affect various elements of gameplay, including resource income and reinforcement times, randomly and temporarily throughout each game. The purpose of War Drive is not to change the game itself, but to affect the way that players strategise, take risks, and generally progress through each game.

Example Ambient Effects include:

Propaganda! - Enemy propaganda is affecting morale both at the frontlines and at home; reinforcing units is going to take longer.

Stalemate - We've hit a stalemate across the entire frontline; all Victory Points are neutralised and must be recaptured!

Encircled - The enemy have us surrounded and resources can barely slip through the net; survive on what you have for now.

Each of these effects (and many more included) are sudden, temporary, and can change the way you play or advance dramatically. Additionally, because of their random appearances, there is little way to prepare for them, and can turn the tide of a losing battle.

Note that War Drive is intended as a casual addition to Company of Heroes 2, and is not fairly balanced; what could be a minor disadvantage for one team could spell defeat for another.

i really like the concept of this mod a lot. One thing my 2 cents about it to have is, longer times of whatever the ambient effect is and maybe less in between.

I love this gamemode, but I do have to echo M0131U5's statement about the popcap. As for the incentive, I'd certainly be willing to donate about $20 or so to see an update. It's not much, but I'm hoping it's one step forward.

oh.... :( ... but I'm still looking forward to its future still :)

@M0131U5 I'm afraid that updates for this game mode are unlikely! It was a fun proof of concept for us, but we'd need some more incentive to go back to made edits and updates.

Can this gamemode have options of increased popcap (atleast more than 150?) so that it can be more compatible with fast paced/combat tuning mods?

I agree, after so much blizzard advertisements I was expecting something more. Have you ever played the original with stormy weather? It is the most beautiful atmosphere I have ever seen in a game. PE soldiers make some lame jokes though. Ahh the original unit dialogues... Germans were not calling Allied anti tank guns "panzershrecks..." Sorry nostalgia struck me.

I see. It was something I had in mind, and your mod sparked that. Imagine something like your mod, but with weather as a factor. Depending on the map setting and overall weather, random effects would occur. Like fog falls, units get their sight ranges reduced dramatically. Heavy wind blows, all artillery and mortar strikes get increased scatter radius.

Thanks for the informative response.

@ViperCanel, I'm afraid that weather effects are very limited in the current version of COH2. Relic never fixed the worldbuilder's issues with saving atmosphere settings, so we're pretty much limited to the versions that they use!
