Planning
Poe is a game that may seem difficult, and it will usually be easier to understand it by copying content from other players, while reading and trying to understand why, but POE 2 came with the idea of making it easier for players to understand with some simplifications and accessible keywords in-game.

Some things may seem daunting, but for those who want to try to get into it without doing a lot of study, I brought this guide, and basic information to help with the game's development. But the first step is planning.

The player must then choose what they want to do, play as a tank or as a glasscannon, which character, which element, and several other possible questions, but all of this can be discovered throughout the journey. However, some questions may arise about specific things in the game that have never been seen before, and here is that guide.

Understand the basic information of the game, and how it works, and thus have greater guidance on how to choose items, skills and passives, what risks you can take and which will be permanent.

Think about what you want to do, try to partially read the passives, and if necessary, make adaptations. There are obviously stronger builds, but anything that works is valid, especially if you find it fun.

The sections provide basic information, but at the end there are more direct tips. I hope you enjoy this guide and that it can help you.
Attributes, Conditions and Combat

Attributes
POE has 3 attributes, Strength, Intelligence and Dexterity, which will limit the use of equipment and gems, in addition to granting some specific benefits.
  • Strength: Grants 2 additional base HP. Limits the use of Armor equipment, Melee weapons and Red Gems.
  • Intelligence: Grants 2 additional base Mana. Limits the use of Energy Shield equipment, magic-focused weapons and Blue Gems.
  • Dexterity: Grants 5 additional base Accuracy. Limits the use of Dodge equipment, Ranged weapons, and Green Gems.
There are a few ways to obtain these attributes, the main ones are through the Passive Tree and equipment, but there is a small amount that is obtained through the character's leveling, mainly the character's central attribute.

These attributes are usually not a central focus of attention, meeting only the requirements for the use of items and skills. However, in advanced stages of the game it may be good to calculate them to obtain additional health points and accuracy if necessary.

Combat
In addition to these, there are Armor, Dodge, Resistances, Block, Spirit, Thorns and Stun. These are the most relevant information for combat, but not all of them, and although they seem simple, they have complicated calculations behind them that will not be mentioned, only what each piece of information means, the final amount can be seen on the character by the shortcut “C”. The logic applies to both the character and the enemies.
  • Armor: Reduces a % of the physical damage that would be caused to the character.
  • Block: Calculation to prevent damage from being applied, being limited by the accumulated amount between shield and other benefits. There are additional ways to gain block, although the shield is the most common.
  • Evasion: Chance that the attack or projectile ignores collision with the character, and thus has no effect.
  • Resistances: Apply a direct reduction to the elemental damage related to it, which can be from the 3 base elements Fire, Cold and Lightning, or Chaos (Poison). This resistance can have a negative value and this causes an effect of increasing the damage received. It is naturally capped at 75%, but can be increased up to 90%.
  • Thorns: Deals damage to enemies that hit with attacks, applying all attack modifiers to the attacker. These modifiers are from the attack that activated the Thorns.
  • Spirit: Used to activate auras and abilities that are continuously active.
  • Stun: When a creature continually receives damage, it may eventually become stunned, ending its current action and usually making it vulnerable. This information is seen on a bar below the enemies' health.
Conditions
Each type of damage also has a type of condition associated with it, these conditions being Bleeding, Freezing, Shock, Ignited and Poisoned.
  • Bleeding: Applied by Physical damage, it becomes aggravated when the character moves.
  • Freezing: Applied by Ice damage, the character becomes slowed until reaching 100% when he is paralyzed.
  • Shock: Applied by Lightning damage, the character receives 20% additional damage up to 100% when he is paralyzed.
  • Ignited: It decreases fire resistance and causes continuous fire damage.
  • Poisoned: It ignores any amount of Energy Shield, causing damage directly to health. It can be applied multiple times, causing poisoning to accumulate and increasing damage.
Gems and Skills

Gems are the main source of skills in the game, providing active and passive skills. In addition to these, there are also weapons that can provide skills while equipped, but the gems are divided into 3 colors associated with the 3 attributes of the game.

The game allows the discovery of gems through uncut gems, which have a level and type, allowing the player to choose the gem they want from a list. Usually the gem is related to the weapon they are using and has attribute limitations. This is also the way to improve the level of current gems, if you do not want to create a new gem with the current level of the uncut gem.

It is worth mentioning that some gems can only be used within their restrictions, usually associated with the type of weapon, attributes or amount of spirit available. Other types of restrictions may occur occasionally for some gems.

Active or activated gems are represented in a circular shape, and can be equipped in the gem tab "G", where detailed gem information can be viewed, or support gems can be equipped on them.
  • Active gems can be linked to shortcuts, either by dragging them from the gem tab or by clicking directly on the shortcut slot to link them.
  • Activated gems can be turned on or off directly from the gem tab, and allocate spirit for use.
Support gems are added to active or activated gems. Each gem initially has 2 sockets for support gems, but consumable items are available to add sockets to each gem up to a maximum of 5 sockets.

When hovering over a support gem, a box will show which equipped gems can and cannot benefit from it. Currently, no support gem can be equipped twice on the same character.

There are ways to enhance gems, thus improving their quality through Gemcutter's Prism, this will improve at least one of the gem's properties such as area of effect, damage, or action time.
Equipment
Equipment is the most important part of the game, and where all the farm ends up being focused. There are 4 item rarities, where common white items can be improved into blue magic items or rare yellow items, and the rarest orange unique items can help to guarantee specific characteristics to different builds.

Unique items will always present the same pattern, seen by the line ending in "U", although internal values can be random, such as dexterity, which varies from 20 to 30. This standardization guarantees their function as Unique items in certain builds. But note that they will not always be the best item, only if they really fit your build or you do not have a better rare item will you use these items, and that is why the game usually revolves all its trade around ways to make rare items stronger.

Rare items can have 6 characteristics attached to them, 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes, which follow a production rule, but this will not be covered in depth in this guide. The important thing is that they can have 6 maximum effects, in addition to 1 additional implicit call line. This is what can make these items so strong, but since production is random, this can require a lot of resources and that's why the game ends up revolving around this.

But the basic thing to remember is that once the text line of something appears, it means that the item cannot have that text again. Did an attribute appear? Probably nothing about attributes will appear again, or if additional lightning damage appears, it will not have another lightning damage line.

We can also notice the T to the right of the line when holding ALT, the higher the T, the better the rank of the line, an additional HP T1 will be worse than an additional HP T5, and with this we can compare equipment more easily.

So if you want a weapon with ice damage, and that ice damage came in T1, it means that that weapon is probably lost and you will have to try a better one next time, thus avoiding spending more resources on an item that may not be worth it, or trying to modify that attribute with other consumable items if other lines of it are good.

Additionally, items can be improved by items that will make them Superior, and this improves the defensive or offensive qualities of the item, without modifying its magical information. It is also possible to add up to 2 sockets to items, allowing you to permanently add runes that will improve the item according to the text of the rune.

It is also important to highlight the belt that can have a number of slots to equip “Charms” that have automatic effects when applicable, and potions that recover charges as enemies are defeated. Charms and potions cannot have a quality higher than Blue, so the limit of lines of effect is equal to 2, 1 prefix and 1 suffix.
Crafting and item production
In addition to items we have item Craft, this is a very complex subject to be added here and therefore has its own Guide.

Passive Tree

The Passive Tree is usually the part that scares new players the most, and for some it is called the Passive Forest because of its vast size. This page has 2 main parts, the tree as a whole, and the Ascension in its center.

At first, the center will only be the character's class photo, but the Ascension is like a subclass related to that chosen character, and to choose one of them you need to pass the first trial. Currently the first one is in ACT II , but if the player does not like the mechanics of that trial, he can choose to do it in any other.

There are currently 2 different trials in the game, Sekhemas and Chaos , and when you acquire the Ascension you cannot change it, but the points obtained can be redistributed at any time for the price in gold. In total there are 8 points available distributed in 4 trials to obtain.

The Passive Tree is the same for all characters, with specific changes in some passives that may not work with specific characters, and with the change in the starting point of each one. In total, each character has 122 total points to invest in passives, between leveling and quests, which can be reallocated at any time for a price in gold.

Types of Passives

There are 5 different types of passives:
  • Attribute: Grants +5 in an attribute of choice. Represented by small circles with a cross.

  • Minor: Usually grants 1 line of benefit, but in rare cases may have 2 lines of benefits. Represented by small circles.

  • Notable: Grants significant benefits, and can often grant up to 3 at the same time. Represented by larger circles, usually inside nodes.

  • Jewel Socket: Slots in the tree that can receive items with their own effects.

  • Keystone: Grants benefits that modify rules and are extremely significant and specific. Represented by large circles that are usually isolated.
Knowing that this is usually the power level among passives, it is interesting to read the nearby Keystones to see if they can be included in your build, or search for keywords that may be related to find out where the passives of this type are, such as elemental penetration, bleeding, or increased damage.

Jewels

Jewels are items that can be equipped directly in the passive tree and, like armor, they have a base attribute related to their color. This color defines which lines are most likely to appear, and as items, they have the rarities blue magic, yellow rare, and even orange unique.
Tips and Observations
A list of basic tips to make your life easier are:
  • Get all items with Sockets. They can be destroyed to obtain materials to socket items during leveling and become stronger.
  • Take Blue magic items limited to 4 slots of inventory to be disenchanted. Yellow and unique items are always worth it at least to disenchant.
  • Superior items can be picked up to also be destroyed, ignore the potions, to strengthen you goods itens at the beginning of the game, it is good to always get them.
  • Don't be afraid to use the most common materials. Always try to transform items that fit your build into magic, and possibly rare ones, maybe even spend some exalted on them to make you stronger. If the item is good, put sockets and runes on it, the stronger it is, the safer and faster you will do everything in the game.
  • The game map may be large, but it also usually holds many special monsters and quests to drop better items, sometimes it may be worth exploring more.
  • If you need to farm and you've runout of maps, you can reset maps by clicking on the teleporter and holding ctrl while clicking on the map you want to reset. This opens a window that allows you to reset the map or just teleport to it.
  • Holding ctrl before clicking on the NPC will activate its main function directly, such as identifying items with the hooded one, or going straight to the disenchantment window.
  • Groups can be formed and this can improve the Drop and make it easier to get through places that your build has difficulty, this includes the Trials.
  • Tabs can make quality of life much easier, currently Currency, Gems, Essence, Uniques are good tabs to have.
  • The premium or specific tabs allow you to put the items on it for sale through the game system, this allows trading between players, but even if you don't have the tab, you can still go to POE Trade and contact other players to buy items.
  • Minions only receive bonuses if it specifies allies or minions. Increasing your damage does not increase the damage of minions, but increasing the damage of allies increases the damage of minions, for example.
  • Always try to apply conditions to enemies, and possibly penetrate their resistances.
Filter
Here you will find the code for a filter I made. You can create a notepad in the menu folder and copy the code so that your filter works and helps you not miss important items.
