Midcentury Institutional Building Set

Description
A bolder vision, for a brighter future!

About 70-odd years ago, the United States was at the forefront of a war-weary world looking hopefully toward a better tomorrow. The good ol' US-of-A emerged not just unscathed from WWII, but its democratic ideals won the ideological battle of the early Twentieth Century.

Flush with money from a booming economy, and a strong federal government that built up significant social trust from the depths of the Great Depression, the American Institution was in the mood for public investment. While social programs, NASA, and the military-industrial complex were being formed amidst the body politic, the necessary capital component needed something to capture this optimistic zeitgeist. What's more - with increased global presence and the gradual trading-off of Imperialist dominance from the Eurosphere, the United States needed to establish a global hegemony with a new geopolitiking face.

Enter the International Style.

Well, it wasn't precisely an entry. The Bauhaus in Germany (specifically the Miesian Period) had been established in - and evicted from - various nations. But, America was young, and eager, and ready to adopt its bold modernity. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows, concrete supports, open floor plans - these architectural notions may be common place now (and thanks to the constructed nihilism of Postmodernism, taken frequently to their cheapest extreme), but the novelty of the modernist movement in our built world could not be overstated.

It wasn't just the government of the USA (and just about every other extant nation; thus the term International) that adopted this new(ish) architectural language. Institutions of every flavor - from banks to universities to hospitals to churches - all took their newfound economic success as a chance to refresh their faces with strong, efficient edifices. Structures that still stand (albeit with diminished pride) to this very day.

Such public optimism has long-since been lost to the inertia of a tired and fattened global consumerism. However, these buildings still exist in just about every town, city, and megalopolis that once shared in the hopes of a better future through science, industry, and development.

Description

This is something of a 1950s/1960s-era office megapack. Eleven (11!) assets included, all sharing the same textures and floor height (and thus assembled compatibility). These assets also have common dimensions, floor heights, and preset colors - a perfect modular pack for any kind of institutional use.

Most are a few scant stories high - think schools, local government, suburban offices, church annexes, or Lions/Elks/Moose/etc clubs. The tower is based off the old YMCA building in Milwaukee, and the shorter buildings are the constituent elements of St. Anne's Catholic school in Arvada, CO.

This set has it all for all your public-building needs. Specifically included:

- 3 Story Annex Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_02
- 2 Story Annex Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_03
- 3 Story Main Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_04
- 2 Story Entrance Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_05
- 2 Story Auditorium Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_06
- 28 Story Tower Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_08
- 8 Story Office Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_10
- 3 Story Gymnasium Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_11
- 3 Story Atrium Building: midcentury_institution_bldg_12
- 2 Story Overhang Building (long): midcentury_institution_bldg_13
- 2 Story Overhang Building (short): midcentury_institution_bldg_14

MoveIt! is almost required at this point. It's about the only way to make these things look good together, especially on various lot configurations.

The metal spandrels between window layers are recolorable. I've preset some basic mid-century modern colors, but go nuts! Pantone released many dyes in the relevant era, and touch-ups since have created a huge variety of base colors.

Dependencies

None. Just vanilla decor on the roof.

These are the tenets of the new language of architecture; one that promises to be spoken by all the Peoples of the World in grand harmony - for the betterment of all!
