AGOT Novus Graphicus Overhaul

Description
This mod almost exclusively utilises assets and file changes made by In heaven. Aside from the small tweaks I have made, listed below, I do not claim credit for anything in this mod. Please show your support by giving him a follow and checking out his other mods.

Welcome to AGOT Novus Graphicus Overhaul, a submod for A Game of Thrones[agotcitadel.boards.net].

Put simply, this combines the superbly detailed terrain from In heaven's Novus Graphicus[forum.paradoxplaza.com] submod with the atmospheric and lighting changes from In heaven's Graphics overhaul mod for vanilla.

Additional Changes
Aside from merging the two mods together and making it work with A Game of Thrones, I have made a few small tweaks, listed below. Unless stated otherwise, changes were made to files from the Novus Graphicus submod and were limited to slight corrections to the map, which was made for an older version of the AGOT mod:

  • Coastlines - Certain coastlines, especially north of the Wall, had unsightly black areas where it conflicted with the newer map shape. These have, to the best of my limited terrain-editing abilities, been corrected with the shape of all landmasses updated to the most recent version of the AGOT map.

  • Rivers - Several river systems were either only partially complete or completely omitted, created unsightly flickering terrain bugs along the affected rivers when zoomed out. These have all been updated and corrected.

  • Terrain - Some small islands and isolated regions, like Witch Isle in the Vale, were absent from the colormap files and appeared as blackened, barren wasteland in the game. These should all have been fixed.

  • Frozen Lakes - I've added a white texture to the Frozen Lakes, located in the far north-eastern corner of Westeros, in the colormap_water file so they should now actually look frozen!

  • Water - Speaking of water, the original vibrant light blue of the oceans, with the new lighting, seemed a bit too bright so I have darkened the colormap_water so that it better matches the look of the Graphics overhaul mod.

  • Map font - Added the small caps version of Linux Libertine[www.dafont.com] as a custom map font since the vanilla font, in my opinion, didn't look very good with the changes in this submod. Simply delete the fonts folder in the gfx folder if you wish to remove it.

FAQ
Will you make a pre-Doom or Colonizable Valyria version?
No. 99% of the map changes in this mod are the work of In heaven and I certainly don't have the skills to make such massive changes to the map myself, at least not to the same level of quality. Also, as I didn't really make this mod, I wouldn't feel comfortable making such massive changes to what is essentially someone else's hard work.

Is this compatible with X submod?
So long as it doesn't alter the terrain or the two colormap files (or the shape of the map itself) this should work with most other submods for AGOT. It will probably also work with mods that do change the map, but you'll likely get a few unsightly graphical bugs where the coastlines or rivers don't match up properly.

Just so you all know... it's likely not compatible if you plan on using the homes for houses or more bloodlines mod both either separate or at the same time. If any of you want to get a graphics overhaul which is compatible with both, you'd have to go to the citadel forums in heavens agot version and meddle with the files from the mbs version and replace/delete some hfh textures. @ManicMayo hope it was alright I posted this.

even in 2014 when I played for the first time the mod I couldn't find out why they cut the riverlands

@Sonderistic - At the most basic level, this one uses the higher-detailed terrain texture files from In heaven's Novus Graphicus submod for AGOT while the forum version just adds the Graphics overhaul atmospheric and lighting effects while using the much less impressive vanilla AGOT map textures.

Here are two screenshots of the of the Narrow Sea region from the colormap ( HERE [i.ibb.co])and colormap_water ( HERE [i.ibb.co]) files of both mods for comparison. As you can see, there's a markedly higher level of terrain detail in this one when compared to the one on the forums.

how different is this to In Heaven on the AGOT submod forum? is there any noticeable difference?
ManicMayo  [author] 15 May @ 1:59pm
@Drakenblod - Not 100% sure what you're trying to say but, in terms of compatibility between the two mods, they don't work well together. I don't use it personally, but I would imagine Colonizable Valyria edits both the terrain and colormap files to remove the charred, desolate appearance of the Valyrian peninsula.

Removing these files from Colonizable Valyria's mod files should be all that's required to fix this issue. Valyria will once again look like a desolate wasteland, but you should still be able to colonise it and the rest of the map shouldn't have buggy terrain.

so for some reason the cognizable valyria only works with this ovehall if i load without it dos int load the colonize mod

@70e70 - It should be working fine. I did release a tiny update for the mod today but that shouldn't have caused any issues (hopefully!)
