The Deranged Industries: Ion Beam Point Defense

Description
The Deranged Industries
proudly introduces:
The Ion Beam Point Defense Turret.

This is a standalone version of my ion beam PD turret.
Do not use with my rebalance mod. The turret is included.

The Ion Beam PD turret is a deck mounted high tech system designed to efficiently defeat multiple incoming projectiles. By applying damage to targets at the speed of light, the Ion Beam PD no longer expels damage potential into empty space. It also boasts a superior target tracking system enabling it to shift to new targets instantly with a 90% success rating.

Due to a few outlier incidents, a crew member is required during operation to ensure the in-bedded AI targeting system does not gain sentience.

  • Instant hit point defense.
  • Deck mounted turret.
  • Rapid turret traversal and target acquisition.
  • Low damage, but highly efficient.
  • Requires 1 dedicated crew member.
  • Needs 1 to 2 crew to maintain battery usage.

Its pretty anoying that the Shots of Big Cannons get cought on the Laser PDs. It makes it impossible to utilize the PDs Properly. Can you change that?

The reset animation before the turret turns to a new target mixed with the beam continuing to fire for a short period after killing a target made the beam animation extremely jerky.

Why doesn't it automatically reset after firing

Furthermore, did the EMP miss the ship in their first swing? I could see this system killing 4 only if it was actively maneuvering around and dodging them.

Honestly, Id say these are actually very well balanced. For me, they fit more of an anti-nuke role, and I feel they would be very useful (though brokenly op) if they also had a targeting priority.

Balancing against vanilla for people who are willing to download and install mods is nearly impossible. Not just because balancing is hard, but because mods change numbers under the hood. You said max-speed EMP missile launchers. Is this using modular missiles?

I mention this because I actually re balanced this for vanilla when I made this version. I even went so far as to record one of the tests I did with it vs two emp missile launchers. You can see the effect in the 5th image. It defeats 1 emp missile, but the second gets in with impunity. According to my testing of it's balance, whats you're describing is an anomaly.

This is cool but its not very balanced with vanilla. A single ion point defense can totally prevent at least 4 max speed EMP missile launchers pretty much indefinitely, a feat that takes like 6+ regular point defense systems. The flak can equal it for the cost of:
- Way more manpower
- Narrower arc
- Non deck mounted

I feel like this Ion PD should be like super short range to encourage efficient placement, instead of being a sniping super system.
It probably makes a lot of sense in the context of the overhaul where many things are stronger, but as a standalone its pretty OP.

now make huge ION gun like battle cruiser in Home World had, and you are my number one modder here :D

Hey wow this is awesome! Would it be ok if I put this in my broadsiders mod? It's like a mod built for my small discord community for multiplayer games. :)
