OvN Lost Factions: Araby

Description



This mod is part of the OvN Lost Factions mod series which adds new and interesting races to the game and requires Mixu's Unlocker to work. These races are available to play in the Immortal Empires campaign, Immortal Empires Expanded, The Old World and custom battles.

For the custom siege map to appear use the Map Replacer Framework mod.



List of Araby Factions
  • Major Playable Factions
    • Sultanate of Araby - Led by Sultan Jaffar starting at Al-Haikk, Araby
    • Aswad Scythans - Led by Fatindira starting at Karag Orrud, Worlds Edge Mountains
    • The Golden Fleet - Led by Golden Magus starting at Copper Landing, Western Lustria
  • Minor Factions
    • Sultanate of El-Kalabad - El-Kalabad, Araby

What's Included
  • Complete New Race 'Araby' - Like the Wood Elves, Chaos Daemons or the Empire, Araby is its own distinct race. In general a new race will have it's own unit roster, legendary lords, mechanics, diplomatic relations, technology tree, magic lore, spells and everything else you might expect from a distinct race.
  • Full Custom Roster - The Araby race has a fully custom roster, the custom units all draw from the tabletop, lore or the OvN team. This not only includes units, but fully custom heroes, lords and legendary lords, all with unique visuals and using custom made models, assets and animations.
  • Three Playable Custom Factions - There are three unique faction from the Araby race to play as 'Sultanate of Araby', 'Aswad Scythans' and 'The Golden Fleet', there are additionally a number of extra custom battle factions to play as.
  • One Minor Faction - Additionally there is a minor factions, to expand the presence of this race on the campaign map, these being the Sultanate of El-Kalabad.
  • Custom Mechanics
    • Jaffar's Revenge - The 'Sultanate of Araby' faction has a unique faction mechanic which see the player enact 'Jaffar's Revenge' by uniting all of Araby and conquering all of Estalia, Tilea and Bretonnia which in turn provides various rewards.
    • Fatandira's Allegiance - When playing the 'Aswad Scythans' the player must decide Fatandira's Allegiance and side with either theTomb King God Tutankhanut, or the people of Araby. Both sides offer unique rewards for your faction, from campaign buffs to powerful Royal Djinn or Tomb King Construct units. Your allegiance shifts by constructing certain buildings, winning battles and other deeds.
    • Pirates Delights - Like any good pirates 'The Golden Fleet' faction can enjoy a host of pirate mechanics such as Infamy, Pieces of Eight and Magus comes with an upgradeable ship.
    • This is just a few of the mechanics for Araby, explore the Bazzar, side with the Nomads or Urban Elites and much more.


F.A.Q. & Compatibility
Mod Won't Start/Missing Updates
There is a chance after the mod gets updated that steam will fail to download the update, possibly corrupting your version of the mod. If your game crashes on game start, you are missing something from a recent update or have some other issues try this;
1) Restart Steam - This can kick start the process of checking for mod updates
2) Unsubscribe and resubscribe to all the required mods - To properly unsub, unsub from the mod, start the game launcher, quit and resub. This will give you a fresh install of the mod and often fixes problems for people.
3) Use PropJoes WH3 Mod Manager

Is this mod lore accurate?
As many of you know, for a place of such close proximity to the Old World, Araby has not a whole bunch of lore talking about it, and what little there is, is scattered across the very, very different eras of Warhammer Fantasy. For Araby’s depiction in this mod we have mostly ignored the dated (and honestly, unimaginative) second edition lore, and most of the ‘official’ lore we have based Araby on its more modern incarnation from sources such as the Two Crowns of Ras-Karim novella and the fourth edition of WFRP. That still left us with a bunch of blank spaces, so we filled them out with our own original lore where such gaps ramained. Visually our Araby draws a little from 2007’s Warmaster Araby army while the rest is a mostly original “Warhammerised” take on various One Thousand and One Nights/Arabian Nights fantasy tropes, with a lot of the visual cues for OvN’s Araby designed specifically for it by our main 3D Artist, BarboMarsh. We hope that this sets our Araby apart from other depictions in WFB fan projects while still remaining somewhat consistent with the greater themes and visual cues of the setting itself.

Bug Reporting
Before reporting a bug make sure you have done the following;
1) Subscribed to all the required mods.
2) Turned off all other mods and replicated the bug.
3) Unsubscribed and resubscribed to all the required mods.

If you still have a bug post it to discord, ideally with a screenshot - at the OvN channel on Da Modding Den[discord.gg], Lost Factions[discord.gg] or if it is a small bug you can post in the comments but please try the above at least before posting. This helps us out and saves us time so we can concentrate on genuine bugs.

For sure, I think Araby could use some more varied higher tier nonmagical units via jannissaries.

Jannissaries (Jezzails) (balanced around Handgunners, but more capable in melee and faster firing, more expensive)

Jannissaries (Grenade Launchers)

Jannissaries (Scimitar and Shield, anti-infantry compared to Palace Guard)

Immortals (RoR variant of Jannissaries, best infantry unit Araby gets, Unbreakable)

I have very long load time when starting an Araby campaign for the first time each session (i.e. a new game or loading a game) with about a 10 min wait time. Anyone else experience this? Does not really occur with other factions, at least to this extent. I have a good PC and SSD so that isn't the issue

they seem really underpowered for me, especially in the endgame, since they only have 1 tier 5 and no tier 4 units. and all tier 3 are either melee infantry or melee cavalry.

Yeah i've been saying for a while Araby isn't overtuned at all compared to current factions. Hell the empire is more overtuned than they are now. I love araby and the mechanics and visuals but they really need a couple more high tier units, Jannisarries, more palace guard variants and a stronger tech tree.

Everyone complaining that Araby's overtuned: no idea what you're talking about, at least in The Old World campaign. Araby gets steamrolled whether as a player or AI because they start surrounded by overpowered Slaanesh factions.
