The main improvement of the T-72M2 Moderna compared with the T-72M1 is that it is equipped with a DYNA type of detonation counter, which was developed by Czechoslovakia itself, and its defense capability against HEAT ammunition has been greatly improved, but it is said that this type of burst also has a certain defense capability against tandem HEAT and APFSDS ammunition. At the same time, starting with the second prototype, railing structures were added to the turret and some places on the side of the body to protect against RPG ammunition. The turret is also equipped with a passive laser warning system of the LIRD-4D type, which can timely warn the range-finding laser beam of enemy anti-tank weapons, measure the bearing, and if necessary, automatically or manually throw smoke grenades on both sides of the turret to temporarily cover the body.
