Overview
What this mod does:
This mod uses xdelta to inject a patch into the "volume.dat" file in your game installation to restore old dialogue from before the 2023 patch
Installation
Step 0
Backing up the volume.dat file.
First of all, navigate to your game directory (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed) and create a backup of "volume.dat"

You can do this by either creating a new folder and copying it there, or simply renaming it "bakvolume.dat" or whatever your preference is

Step 1
Download the .zip archive from Google Drive[drive.google.com]

Step 2
Extract the .zip archive (location does not particularly matter). You should see the following files within the "AdmiralAckbarMod" folder
Step 3
In the AdmiralAckbarMod folder, open "xdeltaUI"
Under the (default) Apply Patch tab you will see 3 fields:
  • Patch - where we will be selecting the patch to replace the dialogue
  • Source File - where we will be selecting the original "volume.dat" file
  • Output File - the name/location of newly generated "volume.dat" file with the patch applied

Step 4a
Click on "Open" beside "Patch" and navigate to the folder you just extracted
Open the "AdmiralAckbarPatch" folder and double (left) click the AdmiralAckbarPatch.xdelta file to open it

Step 4b
Then, repeat this process for "Source File".
Navigate to your game directory (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed) and double (left) click the "volume.dat" file to open it (in this case bak_volume.dat, as I renamed the file as detailed in Step 0, as a backup)

Step 4c
Finally, we're going to select an output directory for the patched file.
(left) click the [...] button under "Output File"
Navigate to your root game directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed) and make sure the name is "volume.dat" for the output file

Step 5

Now you can select "Patch" and within a few moments the game should be patched and your traps will be restored

Step 6
After this your game directory should look something like this:

Feel free to remove the backup file you made at the start (to clear up some diskspace). This is, of course, optional.

I just started my 2nd playtrhough of this game after many years, this time in japanese.
Even if new releases are already westernised on release, I'll atleast be able to enjoy older games as they were meant to be

Funny thing, too. I never knew that the term "trap" was political for a certain crowd.
The trap meme throughout the game was kinda funny, so hearing that it got changed to something tame and lame is annoying. Good thing modders came to the rescue.

This is good. The modding community in the discord server is making progress with making the game moddable as well.

If it's possible to mod the script, then another good change would be restoring honorifics in place of all of XSEED's stupid nicknames. Of course that's barring the possibility of a proper retranslation.

Thanks! You're doing God's work.

Its hilarious because, yes this literally means nothing, but by removing the dialogue they are overwriting and modifying an experience capturing the time it was made it. You don't have progress if you don't have history to compare it to, and if you think 2012 assholes are any different than 2023 the publishers are nuts.

Hope we get a way to put the old video advertisements, and restore the superstrip move to not being a literal flashbang.
