Description
'Your typical 80s Japanese FWD hatchback. Lightweight, nimble, cheap, and hilariously unsafe.' - Gabester

Originating from the videogame BeamNG.Drive, the Ibishu Covet is a simple, no frills hatchback built on a robust, compact frame whose entire design was focused on its efficiency. Despite being originally made for the Japanese market, some executives believed it would also be enticing to the Western market. So with some slight changes to its design, it was shipped overseas to the states in the summer of '86.

And boy, was it a hit. It was by far, Ibishu's best-selling vehicle of all time and quickly became an icon of Japanese engineering. Rather than focusing on extravagant, boastful features, the Covet was instead simply a modest vehicle for the modest man. But despite its modesty, it could do next to anything that every other vehicle could already do on the road, just far more cheaply, efficiently, and most importantly; functionally.

Retailed Models:

1.5 Dx: The absolute baseline trim of the Covet. Cut away with almost everything that was deemed 'extra' by their creators and skimped on the boundaries of what was legally viable for the US roads for the time to get the lowest cost possible. One mirror. No radio. The simplest engine. Be glad that they even offered a heater in this thing, as it may as well have just been a glorified armchair on wheels. The only real upside to this vehicle was that the engine was stupidly easy to maintain, at the expense of barely doing highway speeds. But hey, at least the mileage is great...

1.5 Dxi: This was what Ibishu called their 'Standard Line', being the single most popular trim of the whole Covet fleet. This model offered some more (expected) vehicle comforts, most notably the switch from a carbureted engine to a fuel injected one, producing far more power at the cost of a more complicated design. It was by far a more capable vehicle, the perfect vehicle for the college students to the white collar worker. An icon of the Ibishu brand.

1.5 Lxi: The Lxi was designed to be Ibishu's more premium line of the Covet, featuring an overhauled design to its innately cheap exterior to make it more appealing to wealthier audiences. Despite their attempts to make it more sleek however, much of its amenities stayed entirely the same as from the Dxi, offering nothing much more than just a nicer looking car with a slightly better engine and a significantly higher price. Naturally, this model didn't sell all that well, but it did hit a nice niche with the elderly market as a wonderful car that matches their lifestyle.

1.5 Zxi: Initially the Zxi was a bit of an experimental model, being Ibishu's very first attempt of dipping into the unfamiliar 'hot hatch' market. Featuring a far more advanced engine that was pushing it for the tiny 4 cylinder, the Zxi was an impressive beast that could far outperform much of its competition, while still staying remarkably affordable. Believe it or not, this is where the wealthy gravitated to when it came to the Covet, and as such they would put the pedal to the metal when it came to this division.

1.5 Zxi Special Edition: This limited edition Zxi was offered following after the surprising popularity of the Zxi, featuring some bladed alloy wheels and a slick factory livery across the entire circumference of the car while offering just that little bit more power to make it just that bit more worth of a buy for the American audience.

2.0 Gtz: Following after Ibishu's release of their new 'BX' line of coupes in 1990, The Gtz was offered as an exclusive, limited production offering to the Covet lineup by using its new, JDM-only 2.0L engine inside of it. The result was an absolute monster, too large to even properly fit within the traditional hood and required what is considered its signature 'hump' on it. It was the only Covet to be fitted with anti-lock braking, and acted as the ultimate Covet that money could get in North America, until its complete discontinuation in 1992.

Would be nice to have your card animated. If you ask the modderb of animated car mod, he can tell you how to implement.

it wouldnt make much sense to have a japanese kei truck in early 90s kentucky, but i feel like the 3 wheeled pigeon machine would be a wonderful addition to the game

@Ryan are you talking about the mockup image I did as the preview image? It's just me editing the original image with the BeamNG UI elements onto it for funzies. There's no mod for it, but man do I wish there was.

@zqidx while I not only know the mod, I'm actively subscribed to it, my priority for now is to focus primarily on the vanilla cars. And even then, I got university to worry about, so :P
