Forest Brush Revisited v1.4.11

Description

Features
Forest Brush lets you paint realistic and varied forest, grasslands, gardens or just patches of plants with ease and convenience.

Background
This is an update to the amazing Forest Brush mod by TPB. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be maintaining his mods anymore and I could no longer use it with the P&P DLC update. So I worked on this for myself and have released it in case others find it useful.

What have we done
The main thing we have done is fixed the brush not appearing bug from the original and also tidied up the loading code to try and reduce issues this mod was having with loading order and other mods.

I have tested it while running most of the common mods, LSM Revisited, Traffic Manager, Tree Anarchy, Prop Anarchy, Node Controller, Move It! etc.. and had no issues. If you have any issues with it then let me know and I will try to fix them. I will definitely need your outputlog.txt file and a list of installed mods.
Usage Tips
  • Hold down CTRL while moving the mouse and the brush will rotate.
  • Hold down ALT while moving the mouse to change the size.
  • Right click when placing a single tree will cycle through the current brushes trees.

Troubleshooting
Trees keep getting painted on the roads and buildings
- This is caused by the "Collision" setting of the Fine Roads Tool/Network Anarchy being OFF. Turn it back ON and the trees wont be painted on objects any more

I don't see any trees in the list
- This is because you have selected "Brush" mode instead of "All Trees" mode.
Brush mode will only show the current trees for the selected brush, all trees mode will list all loaded trees.
You can change mode by clicking on the button next to the search box under the tree list. If the button shows a brush then it is in "Brush" mode, if it shows several trees then it is in "All Tree" mode.

Method not found: 'TreeInstance.RenderInstance'. [System.MissingMethodException]
- This is the error you will get when subscribed to the old non "Revisited" version of this mod. Please ensure you unsubscribe from TPB's mod when subscribing to this mod.

Incompatible Mods
  • Forest Brush - You will need to unsubscribe from the original mod to use this version.

Thank you so much for this!!

Ugh! Regarding the previous message, I no longer get an error! I started a new city and it worked great, no errors! Then I loaded a working city, around 20,000 CIMs and it also worked great! So I guess it's working great now! Go figure ... thanks for all your efforts!

BTW, it was the UI icon that was messed up. All is well now! :steamhappy:

Thanks Sleepy! You were correct. I un-subbed from 1.3 and subbed to 1.4 revisited. Now it works but I get an error message at startup that I can clear by clicking "ok" 3 times. Here's the message:

"An exception was thrown by the type initializer for KianCommons.UI.TextureUtil [System.TypeInitializationException]

Details:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
at KianCommons.UI.TextureUtil.get_ModPath () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0
at KianCommons.UI.TextureUtil..cctor () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

The result is the little Forrest Brush icon is grey and only appears in the center of the screen and cannot be moved! Not the one on the dashboard, it's fine. I guess it's an extra like other mods I've seen that can be moved around the screen and used to activate the mod. Any thoughts? Thanks!

@jpshark

That's the error you get when you are subscribed to the old non "revisited" version. Can you check you aren't subscribed to the wrong mod?

I can't get this to work without it crashing the game. Here is the message:

"Method not found: 'TreeInstance.RenderInstance'. [System.MissingMethodException]

Details:
No details"

Any thoughts? Thanks

If you can't add more trees when you click on the brush, but can still remove trees, you probably have reached the max number of trees for your city. I used Tree Control 1.0 to increase the default tree limit and then the Forest Brush worked again.
