The Compound

Description
TLDR: Designed to be a semi centralized Home Base map. IE STORAGE for your goodies. Not a treasure trove to completely gear you out...that's way too OP (even for beginners). However, almost every building has at least something to loot (but most rooms are empty to store what YOU gather in your scavenging trips).

The Compound is a map mod located in cells 26, 27 and 26, 28 in the dead center of Knox County. making access to the other various towns and player-made maps relatively easy.

This map was initially designed for my son and is geared mainly towards BEGINNERS of this game so that they can adjust to the steep learning curve of the game and learn the basics in relative peace. This map was designed and intended to be a home base, to force you to get out and scavenge. Unlike many of the bunker type maps I've seen and tried...this is NOT a treasure chest of gear and loot. it has enough to get you decently started, nothing more...nothing less.

You will find most (but not all) of the rooms and storage in this area to be EMPTY. That is by design to force you to actually get out and face the zombies.

It adds the following:

-Relative safety and isolation, once you clear the immediate area and fortify it. It isn't 100% horde proof, no matter how thick the trees are...*cough* add fences *cough* (the base isn't complete, it still needs work. In other words...I'm not going to do it all for you...customize it to your own liking in game)
-Easy access to fishing/trapping (you know, those skills everyone ignores until the power shuts off, all the food from scavenging is rotting and they are already starving)
-Plenty of room for farming, and some pre-made fenced off areas for when the livestock patch eventually™ drops (you may want to add some fence gates)
-Plenty of places to store your clothes, food, weapons, tools, survival gear, crafting items, car parts etc
-Plenty of parking for car collectors, and depending on your car spawn settings, you might find some decent transportation to get your scavenging started
-Options for when the electricity and water shut off (when are they going to implement functional solar panels and windmills as standard non-mod building recipes?)

**Status Update 02/08/23**

I took a 6 month break from gaming, social media, and being online so much watching streams, etc. I had some unfinished ideas and plans written down for some alterations and adjustments I was going to try out and try to implement on this map, but I was getting burned out so a lengthy break ensued.

My son (when he can be pulled from his obsession with Minecraft creative mode and trying to design the next big redstone contraption) and I (ok, maybe me moreso than him, for now) recently got back into the game after watching The Walking Dead from beginning to end, and it got me to playing around again on my map...and I figured it was time to complete it.

I will be adding more screenshots over time. Patience please.

I would prefer if you asked permission before using, or modifying this mod elsewhere.

Hey there, the map looks super big, how many generators would one need to power the whole place? Are there recommended places for maximum reach?

Thanks for the kind words @Kellsom. Believe it or not...I've been planning and making changes in preparation for the new build for whenever it drops for 6 months now...including changes in efficiency in certain areas, basement storage to replace some already existing storage (already designed, just need to implement when basements are allowed), possibly an underground parking garage if that's even a possibility (if you're a car hoarder like my son is). It unfortunately means some changes on the horizon, but I will likely drop the test driven new version soon™ and I am hoping to update the screenshots for something more "lived in" too. Keep plugging away.

I love this map. It fits so nicely. Has a bit of everything you need, besides loot which is more than fair. Truly feels like a safe haven. I find myself choosing this as my spawn point more often than not(I have so many to choose too!). Best of all, its basically in the middle of everything which is awesome. I've yet to take advantage of the agriculture spots though. I hope this is shown love and updates over time. Defiantly a staple in anyone's mod collection.
