1. Go to the Kenshi installation folder.
2. Open "forgotten construction set.exe".
3. Close the dialog window that will pop-up. Click the "Open Any" icon on the top bar.
4. Navigate to the mod folder of whichever mod adds the race you want to adjust.
5. Open the .mod file therein. As an example, I chose UWE's.
6. A list of modded entries will load. Locate the one referring to the race you want to edit. UWE adds the Dra'ak race, for instance, and the respective entry is named exactly that.
7. Double click the entry and locate the "portrait distance" value on the left pane. Change it to 6-9 depending of how close you want the image to be. I used 8 for the Dra'ak.
8. Close the dialog window and attempt to close the FCS. A message prompting you to save the changes made will pop-up - click "Yes".
Open the RACE section in FCS.
Just open the portrait distance item for that race and set the value to 6-9.
The smaller the number, the larger the portrait.
Set 6 for a normal human-sized race, 8 to 9 for a hive soldier or other large head.
How to implement custom race?
