Dogmeat

The first companion you will likely come across with no prerequisite quests is Dogmeat. You can find him at Red Rocket Truck Stop, just outside of Sanctuary Hills.

He has no likes, or dislikes, so he is literally Man's (Or Woman's) best friend. He will never abandon you.

You can get him some nice doggy armour too.
Codsworth

Because everyone loves to travel with their very own robot butler.
Before travelling with Codsworth you have to first, complete quest Out of Time, or at the very least discover Concord.

Once that's complete you can travel with him whenever you want. You can normally find him hanging around your house at Sanctuary.

Codsworth Loves it when you make weapon & armour modifications.
He also Likes when you do generous acts, act friendly around settlers who require help & give items like a Nuka-Cola to Sheffield in Diamond City.

He Dislikes it when you are selfish or mean around settlers, provide/use or get addicted to drugs, lock-picking Owned items, theft & pick-pocketing.
He Hates murdering non-hostiles like settlers.

Faction Likes - The Minutemen

If you have the Automatron DLC, you can also upgrade him with some nice new weapons.

Your robotic butler, cannot be romanced. Why'd you wanna go and do something like that anyways?
Preston Garvey

Preston Garvey is the first Minuteman you come across, he's in Concord's Museum of Freedom & surrounded by Raiders. Save him, complete When Freedom Calls & then he will travel to Sanctuary. Travel over there & complete The First Step. Congratulations, you can now travel with Preston, endless settlements need your help, he'll pester you with that one forever.

Preston Likes generosity, peaceful acts, helping helpless settlers & weapon modification.

He Dislikes selfish acts, comments that provoke violence, chem usage/addiction, cannibalism, lock-picking owned items, stealing, pick-pocketing & giving drugs to people like Mama Murphy.

He Hates killing non-hostiles like settlers.

Faction Dislikes - The Brotherhood Of Steel (BoS).
The option is there to romance Preston.
Piper
Piper Wright is a Reporter in Diamond City & is a important part of the main quest line, you can't miss her.
When you first meet her, it's outside the gates of Diamond City.
After talking with the Mayor, she'll ask you to provide her a story about your time in the Vault & in return, she'll travel with you throughout the commonwealth.
Complete Story Of The Century & then she'll be available to go immediately. If you decide to travel with someone else, she'll remain at her Newspaper shop Publick Occurrences, near the entrance to Diamond City.

Piper Likes it when you're nice to people, provide generous acts, give items like Nuka-Cola to peasants with shot livers, some sarcastic comments and lock-picking non-owned items.

She Dislikes it when you are Selfish, mean, overly violent, steal from & pickpocket people.
Hates random murdering of non-hostiles.

Faction Likes - The Railroad and The Minutemen.
Faction Dislikes - BOS & The Institute.
Piper can be romanced.
Nick Valentine
Nick Valentine is tied to the main quest-line & thus, you'll come across him eventually when you decide to progress through it.
Nick can be found in the Subway converted into Vault 114.
To obtain Nick as a companion, you must first complete Unlikely Valentine and Getting a Clue.

Once completed, you can travel with him whenever you wish. If you decide to travel with someone else whilst playing the quests, you can find him in Valentine's Detective Agency near the Diamond City market.

Mr. Valentine here, Likes it when you're nice, giving people items that they request and successfully hacking terminals.

He Doesn't like when you act violent, cannibalism, steal or pickpocket.
Also, he Hates the murder of non-hostiles.

Faction dislikes - The Brotherhood of Steel.
Can't be romanced, because he's a really old, prototype Synth.
R.J MacCready
Yes, this is the same kid from Little Lamplight in the Capital Wasteland (Fallout 3).
He's all grown up now, he's in the Commonwealth & a possible companion...
You can find MacCready in the back of The Third Rail in Goodneighbor.

All you need to recruit him is 250 caps or 200 caps if you pass the speech check.
As a companion, he will provide you with his own quest Long Road Ahead, once you've reached the appropriate affinity with him. You'll need to do that to max him out and get the Perk he provides.

He Likes Violence, speech success (Lying, Threats, Asking for extra caps), theft/pick-pocketing and lock-picking NPC owned items.

However, he Dislikes it when you're too nice, being too cruel, giving items to people who request it & chem addiction.
He Hates murdering non-hostiles.

Faction Likes - The Minutemen.
MacCready can be romanced.
Deacon
To obtain Deacon as a companion, you must first find the Railroad HQ by walking The Freedom Trail. Then, by completing Tradecraft you'll have him available. He will be at the Railroad HQ until you choose him as your companion.
You now have a chameleon available as your companion.

Deacon Likes to play nice & peaceful, has a charitable side, enjoys a good speech success & likes it when you hack into stuff. Don't forget to break into anything with a lock, he likes it even if it's owned by an NPC.

He Doesn't Like violence, or being mean. He turns hostile if you murder a member of the Railroad or a settler. Doesn't like chem usage/addiction or cannibalism.

Faction Likes - It goes without saying that he likes the Railroad.
Faction Dislikes - The Institute & BOS.

Deacon can't be romanced.
Hancock
To gain Hancock as a follower, you must first complete The Big Dig for Bobbi No Nose in Goodneighbor. You can find her in the back alleys.
Now, you can end that quest-line whatever way you want to, he'll still be available as a companion.

Once your done there, he'll either be at the entrance to Goodneighbor where you first got asked for "Insurance" or in the Town House, he'll have a chat with you & ask to come along in your travels. If you decide to travel without him, he'll wait for you in Goodneighbor.

Now Hancock, is a man of taste, he likes generosity, being mean (when it's called for), being peaceful, providing / using & getting addicted to chems.

He Dislikes theft, being mean without reason & being selfish.

He Hates murdering non-hostiles.

Faction dislikes - The Institute.

Your ghoulish friend can also be romanced.
Cait
Our lucky little Irish lass kicker.
Cait can be found in the Combat Zone & can be recruited once all the raiders are wiped out.
She'll remain here until you talk to her & begin to travel with her.

Now Cait, she's a lady of simple tastes, she Likes to be selfish, mean, violent, likes it when you provide, use and get addicted to chems & when you pickpocket and lock-pick pretty much anything, owned by NPC or not.

However, she only likes the drug use, prior to her personal quest. She Dislikes your generous, peaceful nature, dislikes cannibalism.

Hates Murder of random settlers.

Faction dislikes - Pretty much everyone. Doesn't like the Railroad, the Minutemen, the Institute or the Brotherhood... For the last one I assume it's because it's not called the Sisterhood? Eh who knows, who cares.

She can be Romanced.
Curie
The French madame Curie can be found in Vault 81.
She can be gained after the completion of Hole in the Wall. If you don't travel with her, she will stick around Vault 81 until you decided to commence your travels with her.

She Likes generosity, being nice, giving items that are requested & saying nice thing's about synths.

She Doesn't like selfish, violent dialogues, chem addictions, theft & pickpockets.

Hates Murdering poor little settlers.

She does give a quest which can only be done at a certain point in the story & requires the Railroad to be fully alive and functioning.

Faction Likes - The Railroad and Brotherhood of Steel.

Faction Dislikes - The Institute.

She can be romanced.
Strong
Our heavily irradiated resident Super Mutant... Strong.
Can be found at the top of Trinity Tower during the quest Curtain Call. Upon completion, he will stick around Trinity Tower until you decide to travel with him.

Now Strong is... hard to please. He's got a few likes... But so many dislikes it's pretty hard to reach max affinity with him (in my opinion).
He Loves murdering non hostiles.

Likes to see cannibalism, violence, giving requested items & generosity.

Dislikes Speech success, lock-picking anything, Theft/pickpocket & the use of everyone's favourite toys. Power armour and Vertibirds.

Faction Dislikes - The BoS & The Institute.

Can't be romanced. Why on earth would you want to anyways? He has a face only a mother can love. And Super Mutants don't have any mothers!
Paladin Danse
Early on in the game, near Cambridge, you will pick up Military Frequency AF95, tune into it and head towards Cambridge Police Station. Oh look, it's our favourite knights in shining armour... Well not literally... There's only one arrogant knight, one Paladin who looks like Buzz Lightyear very respectable & a friendly Field Scribe, all over-whelmed by Feral Ghouls.

Turn up, save the day, answer Danse's questions, do his quests, join the BoS as an initiate. Now just proceed the main story until a certain point. Now, after all that, you still gotta do another quest before you can get him as a companion.
Anyway, after all that, Danse can now be your companion & can be found in the mess hall of the Prydwen. After Blind Betrayal he'll be at Listening Post Bravo.

He loves armour modifications.

He also Likes it when you enter Power armour & Vertibirds as well as weapon modifications.

His dislikes are synth praises, chem usage/addiction, being mean, theft, cannibalism.
After Blind Betrayal badmouthing synths is a no go.

Hates Murder of settlers.

Faction Likes - The BoS & Minutemen.

Faction Dislikes - The Institute.

Danse can be romanced.
X6-88
X6-88 is available after you get into the Institute & do a few quests for them... One of the quests will be Synth Retention. After both you & the synth return to the Institute. X6-88 will show you your own personal living quarters & will become available as a companion.

He Likes selfish responses, being peaceful, speech success, hacking, weapon & armour modifications as well as the use of Power Armour.

Dislikes being generous, nice, giving items, chem usage/addiction and Vertibirds.
Surprisingly though, he Hates murder. I thought that was the Coursers main Job description.

Faction Likes - The Institute.

Faction Dislikes - The BoS & The Railroad.

X6-88 Can't be romanced.
ADA / Custom Built Automatrons - (Automatron DLC)
Has no Likes / Dislikes.

Provides a quest and a new settlement though.

Cannot be romanced. Why? Because Battle Bots aren't meant for anything other than Battle!
Old Longfellow - (Far Harbour DLC)
This old coot can be found in the Last Plank (Mitch's Bar) on Far Harbour. Must complete quest Walk in the Park and then he'll be available. He'll wait on his Island next to Far Harbour for you, if you choose not to travel with him.

He Loves the destruction of the Nucleus and the Children of Atom. Really just anything bad towards the Children of Atom.

He Likes to be nice, give items and consume strong alcoholic beverages (Vodka, Whisky, Rum).

Has a strong dislike of being mean, peaceful, overly violent, proving and using chems, cannibalism, theft and pickpockets.

He doesn't have an opinion on the main factions of the game. He just really hates those Atom worshipping loonies.

He can't be romanced.
Porter Gage - (Nuka-World DLC)
Can be found at the Fizztop Grille, after running through the Gangs torture maze A.K.A The Gauntlet.
He can become your companion & help you, after meeting the 3 different raider bosses of the park.
He's a Raider & that means he likes to do anything that isn't legal. Even for wasteland standards.

He Likes to steal, pickpocket, being selfish & sarcasm. Also likes modifying weapons.

Dislikes being nice, giving & consuming drugs as well as cannibalism.

Faction Dislikes The Minutemen, BoS, Institute & Railroad.

He can be romanced.
How to Use Console Commands
So, there are different keyboards for different regions of the world. This means, that the people in the United Kingdom will have a different way of accessing the Console commands than those in the United States of America will & pretty much everywhere else. If following two buttons don't work for you, please use the internet.
Here, are the buttons in which most people can use to access the Console commands.
If that doesn't work, try this button.
Now you should be in the command console. Whoop whoop. The Command Console can give plenty of benefits to those playing on PC. In the next section there is a list of those commands that I find useful or interesting. Side note: This doesn't stop achievement progression like it did in previous titles.
Console Commands + Item ID's
TGM - Total God Mode - Infinite health, ammo, carry weight.
TCL - Toggle Clipping. Useful if you get stuck in awkward positions. (Turn it back on afterwards).
TM - Allows you to remove the HUD, making for better Screenshots if you're interested in that.
TMM 1 - Toggle all map markers.
COC qasmoke - Developers Room - all the in-game items in one place.
Cow commonwealth 1 1 - Teleports you out of developers room, spawn near Railroad base Ticon.
Player.setlevel 100 - Number can be changed to your preferred level, use with caution, going too high can crash game.
Kill - Whilst console is up, target someone with your mouse and press enter, kills specific target.
Resurrect - Direct opposite of kill, brings dead NPC back to life.
Killall - Everyone in immediate area dies, unless vital to story or companion.
Lock/unlock - Can lock or Unlock a door, terminal or safe depending on what you target.

Time for some very useful codes for base building and modifying weapons/armour. Number can be changed for desired amount of item. Use the arrow keys in console command to copy the last thing you typed in. Easy edits.

Collectables
I have separated this part into another guide as it is rather beefy & required a lot of research & work.
If you want to gain all the collectables, please follow this link: https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2808697112
Achievement Guide
So there is 84 individual achievements in Fallout 4, which pretty much require all the DLC's I think. (Go for the Season Pass on a sale if you don't own them already).
Here is a link to a great Achievement Guide (Written by someone else because I'm lazy).

Conclusion
This is the conclusion to this guide.

If you found it particularly helpful, please rate and favourite this guide. If you're feeling really generous, leave an award or two, I appreciate it.

Thank you! Today I bought Automatron DLC and I will REALLY need this.
The Logman  [Autor] 21. Apr. 2021 um 12:28
Yeah, pretty much every romanceable companion dislikes it when you flirt with others when they're being romanced.
KuthuluX 20. Apr. 2021 um 19:33
Does Piper care if you Flirt with others when she's being romanced? I haven't played in a while but I think I was romancing her? Maybe? Idk but If I was I don't want to mess anything up and I didn't see it either way in the guide.
The Logman  [Autor] 19. Apr. 2021 um 10:07
Nope, there's too many of those joke guides as it is :)
SyAkins 18. Apr. 2021 um 20:53
Oh, I thought it was gonna be one of those other "joke" guides ._.
