Welcome!
It's been a long time since I made the Galil Sandstorm guide and I think it's time for me to make another.
This guide is about patterns. I am going to talk about the special patterns that the Phoenix Blacklight has because I think they are very interesting. That said - I am not going to go into prices because I want this guide to be about a cool pattern based skin that not many people know about and not about money.

NOTE: I have looked at A LOT of patterns but I haven't seen them all. If you find a good pattern that isn't listed - please let me know.

If you own one or more of the Tier 1 Phoenix on body and / or Tier 1 Phoenix on grip patterns - feel free to send a request to join my Phoenix Blacklight Collectors steam group :)

I hope you enjoy and let's get into it :)

The pattern template

If you don't know what patterns are - check out my in depth guide about Floats and Patterns for more info: Floats & Patterns guide

This is the pattern template:

There are a lot of pattern based skins that don't have special patterns. What makes a pattern special is that it is both unique and different enough from the rest of the pattern template.
In this template I am of course referring to the Phoenix head as you can see below.

Common patterns
Many people that see rare patterns on skins often time don't see many of the common ones so I wanted to start by showing four common patterns.
Most patterns don't have the Phoenix on them - or if they do you are not going to see it fully and / or it will have a bad placement.

Here are four examples of common patterns:
You can click on the images to open them up in full size.

Phoenix on body - patterns
Before I get into the specific patterns - I want to write a couple of important notes, please read them:

Note 1: I have inspected well over a 1000 different Phoenix Blacklights but that does NOT mean that I have seen all 1001 pattern seeds since I have seen different ones with the same pattern. Because of that - there might be good patterns that I haven't seen and therefore won't be ranked or shown in this guide.

Note 2: The patterns are ranked according to me (I have asked a few other collectors for their opinions as well). I tried to be as objective as I can - with a few factors I had in mind: The placement, the angle, if a part of the phoenix is cut off and how much the geometry of the Galil (the shape of the weapon model) distorts it. All of that said - these are still MY rankings and because they can't be purely objective - some of you might disagree. If you do - feel free to let me know and I might consider changing the rankings.

Ok let's get into it:
Each category is going to be divided into tier 1 and tier 2 patterns. the tier 1 patterns will represent the best patterns of their respective category and will be ranked. The tier 2 category will represent patterns that are good but aren't as good as the tier 1's and won't be ranked.
"P (number)" refers to the ranking of that pattern, for example: "P3" would mean - Pattern seed that is ranked in third place.

Tier one - Phoenix on body patterns

P1: #755

This is the best pattern because it's perfectly straight and centered.

P2: #963
This pattern is also very straight and centered but it's a bit too high up. Because of that - the top of the Phoenix a bit cut off and the curve at the top makes it a bit more distorted in game.

P3: #619
This pattern gets third place because it's still mostly straight while being just a bit off-center, though it's worth mentioning that because it's off-centered towards the front of the weapon - it will be a bit further away from the player in game.

P4: #978
This pattern is basically the slightly more angled version of the last one.
When shooting with this pattern in game - it looks like the Phoenix is opening its mouth because of the placement of the beak which gives this pattern a cool extra effect. This is true for the #619 shown above as well but this pattern is placed on the skin a little bit better to cause that effect.

P5: #432
This pattern would arguably be in third place but there are a couple of things going against it.
While the Phoenix is a bit closer to the player in this pattern than the last two - it's also a bit more angled. The second thing is that while it looks very nice from the front - the beak goes a bit too far forward beyond the ridge in the weapon's geometry (where the beak drops off to the lower part of the body) which makes it look more distorted in game.

P6: #419
This pattern is very similar to the #432 but because it's a bit higher up the top is a bit cut off making it a bit worse.

P7: #289
This pattern is rather angled but because it's so centered and visible in game - it deserves a place in the tier 1 category.

P8: #729
This pattern is, in a way, the inverse of the last one. It's very straight but it's rather off-center.

I was considering ranking all of the patterns that I found but it's impossible to rank them objectively since they have a lot of very different positives and negatives. Instead I decided to just show the tier two patterns without ordering them specifically (they are somewhat ordered but not really so decide for yourselves which ones you like better).

You can click on the images to open them in full size.

Tier two - Phoenix on body patterns

When ranking the patterns I had some other Phoenix on body patterns saved that I decided not to put in because I didn't think they were good enough for tier 2.

Phoenix on grip - patterns
I have another important note to mention in this section, please read it.

NOTE: The Phoenix on these patterns is not very visible while holding them in-game because of the Galil's geometry. You can see them on inspect but not while holding them normally in game. Please keep that in mind if you are going to buy one.

Tier one - Phoenix on grip patterns

P1: #643
This pattern would be perfect in theory. Unfortunately while it is perfectly straight and centered - the line that sticks out on the Galil is exactly over the eye which makes it not visible. Although that is the case - this pattern still deserves first place because of how straight and centered it is.

P2: #475
This pattern is well positioned but with a bit of a tilt upwards.

P3: #573
This pattern is similar to the #475 but it's a bit too high up on the weapon causing it to get a bit cut off at the top.

P4: #303
This pattern is angled quite a bit, in fact it's a bit more angled than the pattern that I am going to show next. The reason it gets a better placement over the next one is because the eye is fully visible on it while it's covered on the #893 (the pattern shown below).

P5: #893
This pattern is the slightly straighter version of the pattern above but as you can see and as I mentioned in the description of the #303 - The Phoenix's eye is covered here which makes it a bit worse.

P6: #169
This pattern is a bit straighter than the two that come before it but it's also very off-centered towards the barrel. It also has the downside of being a bit too high up which makes the top of the Phoenix a bit cut off so it will be the last to enter tier 1.

Just like the Phoenix on body patterns - the tier two Phoenix on grip patterns are not ordered by rank so decide for yourselves which ones you think are better.

Tier two - Phoenix on grip patterns

When ranking the patterns I had some other Phoenix on grip patterns saved that I decided not to put in because I didn't think they were good enough for tier 2.

Phoenix writing - patterns
This section is about something else that I found interesting in the pattern template so I decided to show it.

Amongst all of the graffiti there is a "PHOENIX" written in bright pink. I think it looks cool when it's straight on the body or on the grip so I thought it would be a nice addition.

I only have two patterns for each category to show in this section so I will just show the patterns on body and then the patterns on grip without ranking them.

Phoenix writing - on body

Phoenix writing - on grip

I don't expect many people to want these patterns but I thought they were cool so I wanted to show them :)

Honorable mention
Out of all of the pattern seeds that I have seen - only one of them had two full Phoenix heads on any part of the weapon. The positions of the Phoenix heads are not good but it's still a cool pattern and because it's so rare I felt obligated to show it - so here it is.

#819

I think this is a good place to mention that there are plenty of other pattern seeds with the Phoenix on the stock but because it's not visible in game and the others didn't have a full Phoenix head on the front - they are not good enough in my opinion to count as good patterns in any category.

Closing notes
First of all - thanks for reading my guide.
It took a lot of time and effort so if you enjoyed it - I would highly appreciate if you gave it a like and maybe even a favorite.
If you feel that I deserve a steam award I would greatly appreciate that too :)

Please don't get overhyped about Phoenix Blacklights. They don't have a stable price yet and no one knows where it's going to stabilize. I don't want you to get "burnt" and lose money and I don't want the skin to get hate because of it. Please keep that in mind if you are thinking of buying one.

Have a nice day :)

This should be obvious but I am feeling obligated to write it anyway:
I do NOT give permission to anyone to reupload this guide in any way shape or form.

@darebrained: 69 because it's lower down and 224 because it's lower and very tilted
darebrained 25 Sep @ 9:42am
Why are 69 and 224 in tier 2 while 729 is tier 1 with having half the phoenix head stuck in the balt handle? Aren't those two much more visible placements?
