Albeit a outdated design by modern standards, the SF-I2-A "Torch" is the oldest combat fighter still in service within the WEC's Security Force Branch. The Torch was originally envisioned as a compact rapid-response interceptor that can fit into even the smallest hangars - allowing for even remote outposts to host a Torch for anti-piracy and station defense operations. However, once the WEC found itself dragged into a war on the other side of the Solar System, the Torch quickly proved to be horrendously outmatched by TFK & REC fighters on the enemy side. Whilst improvements were made with the subsequent B-Revision, most of the problems relating to low fuel capacity were never quite resolved - thus, the Torch was relegated to station defense duty, hit-and-run carrier operations, and initial interception of smaller threats. The Torch, as the name might suggest, was nicknamed after the large hydrogen torch drive present on the rear of the ship (though said drive was only ever present on the A-Model. The short bursts of 4.5g-acceleration provided by the afterburner make up for the otherwise-slow ion thruster assembly. The model features here is the A-Variant - it has since been superseded by the B- & C-revisions, and other craft like the SF-I4A "Vigilante".
