EMD GP9 - Nickel Plate Road

This mod adds 3 Nickel Plate Road (NKP) EMD-GP9's to the game. These are repaints of the generic EMD GP9 available in game.

The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad, commonly refered to as the "Nickel Plate Road", operated in the mid-central United States from 1881 to 1964. It covered a large area with trackage in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.

In 1955, the Nickel Plate Road received their first batch of GP9's, a "general purpose" diesel-electric road switcher by General Motor's Electro-Motive Division. The railroad would eventually receive 107 of this type.

There appear to have been three paint schemes applied to the NKP GP9's. All were similar, consisting of imitation gold stripes and lettering on black. The original scheme had several stripes on the nose with 3 stripes down each side. Around 1960, when engines came into the shop, the 3 stripes on the sides were removed (Intermediate scheme). Then in 1961 the stripes on the nose were replaced by 4 broad stripes (Simplified scheme).

Like many other railroads, the Nickel Plate Road declined after World War II and eventually merged with the Norfolk & Western on October 16, 1964.
