About
This guide is for players who want to download and play workshop content for Estranged: Act I, and developers that would like to create and upload content for the game.

The workshop is currently compatible with 64-bit Windows. To get help with the Workshop, you can use the following:
Downloading Workshop Items
To download a workshop item, head over to the workshop and find an item that you are interested in.

Step 1: Subscribe to an Item

Once you have found an item, hit the Subscribe button. Here's an example item, the first ever version of Estranged.

Steam will then download download the item in the background:

Step 2: Mount Downloaded Items

To make the content available in Estranged: Act I, click Play in Steam as normal, but instead of starting up the game, click on Mount Workshop Items:

The command window will tell the game to load your newly downloaded content when it starts (for advanced users, it modifies your gameinfo.txt file).

Once the command window reports that it has completed, press enter to close it.

Step 3: Start the Game

The workshop item is now ready to use! Open the game, and follow the author's instructions about how to use the item.

Removing Workshop Items

To remove a workshop item, simply press "Unsubscribe" on the item's page. Steam will delete the content from your computer, and it will no longer be available in the game.
Uploading Workshop Items
A guide for content creators to upload Estranged: Act I workshop content.

Step 1: Prepare Your Content

The Estranged: Act I workshop treats workshop items the same as content in the "custom" folder. For example, if I was making a map with some textures, materials, sounds and particles, my folder structure would look like this:

File Structure
  • my-workshop-item/
    • preview.png
    • maps/
      • mymap.bsp
    • materials/
      • mymap/
        • mymaterial.vmt
        • mytexture.vtf
    • sound/
      • mymap/
        • mysound.wav
    • particles/
      • mymap/
        • myparticles.pcf
Notes
  • The preview image should be a 1280x720 pixel image which is under 1MB in size. The first found PNG, JPG or JPEG file is used as the preview image.
  • You can override any piece of content included with Estranged, since workshop items are prioritised higher than all other content.

Step 2: Create Your Item

To upload your content, head over to the game's install directory in your file explorer (you can do this by hitting the "Browse Local Files" button on the Estranged: Act I properties window in Steam).

Once there, open a file explorer window containing the parent folder of your workshop item, and another window with the game's install directory.

Drag your workshop item folder (my-workshop-item above) onto the file called WorkshopCreateItem.bat.

The workshop item will now be uploaded. Once it is complete, the tool will open your web browser with the item on the Steam workshop, where you can edit the title, description and add images.

Note: all workshop items are hidden by default! You will need to explicitly make your item visible to allow others to download it.

Step 3: Update Your Item

Updating your item is a very similar process to creating it. Simply drag your item's folder onto WorkshopUpdateItem.bat.

You will be prompted which workshop item you would like to update:

You can either enter the full URL, or the numeric ID:
  • 1698691129

Once you have entered either of these, press <enter> to upload the item. After the upload is complete, the item will be opened on your web browser, and will be available for players to download!
