Khmeli, a scientifically apt dendroid starfaring race, are known for their frantic search for any data on planetary systems with brown dwarfs. Khmeli seem obsessed with an idea of utilizing brown dwarfs as an energy source for their future colonies.

Hyperlab is a Space/Hyperspace lab ship meticulously designed for astrophysical research on gas giants and especially brown dwarfs. Despite being armed to the teeth with various scientific tools, instruments, drones and gadgets, the medium-sized Hyperlab possesses a decent speed and maneuverability, as well as capability to protect itself during unexpected skirmishes. It is equipped with a charbroiled primary weapon and a secondary shield.

Hyperlabs can be sometimes encountered in Hyperspace, enroute to new planetary systems or scanning nearby gas giants and brown dwarfs. They are usually accompanied by medium-sized, more capable fighter-class ships or scouts. The Hyperlab civillian staff always look to trade information and data on peculiar gas giants or especially brown dwarfs or locations of planetary systems with them.
