Introducing the Phoenix: the ship that levels up with you!

With Alpha 7 came a release of many level-10 unlockable Capital Vessels, all of which quickly get the owner into space, but as the player grows, that L10 ship no longer meets their needs: they start looking at higher level content, and end up making... another Capital Vessel! ... while the original L10 gets scrapped...

NO MORE!

Designed to be a complete and configurable mobile base (CMB) for PvE/COOP/Single Player play (NOT DESIGNED FOR PVP), Phoenix is first available at Level 10, and all core components can be upgraed, with space allocated for future stations/features, so you don't need to build another Capital Vessel to get them!

Phoenix comes in 3 varients:

CMB-10: base model, available at level 10. 1 large constructor. No Erestrum or Zascosium required.
CMB-15: "core" upgrade model: thrusters, RCS, fuel tanks, and generator already upgraded. 2 Advanced constructors (required to do the upradges from L10). No other upgrades/configuration changes done.

CMB-25: *example* of a possible level 25 configuration. Full upgrades, all stations in place/upgraded, Artillery cannons, in-line guns.

The level 10 version requires no Erestrum or Zascosium ore (although it does require quite a bit of Sathium, which can be supplied via combat steel blocks salvaged from a "crashed capital vessel"), to make it craftable with only a warp-capable SV. It is also ready for beginner PvE combat: the L10 version can take out most starter-planet POI turrets without signficant damage. The level 15 and 25 versions require more of the rarer ores, and are availble for more experienced players who already meet the requirements.

Due to the simpler thruster/RCS, the L10 varient may not have the desired handling performance--it is still capable, but not at desired levels. Handling improves drastically after L15 Core upgrades.

Base features:
- 6 miniturrets for drone defense, and taking out base turrets: all turrets are labeled in the control panel for quick manual defense
- complete exterior hull made of combat steel, with minimum 3 layers thick on the bow for difficult/end game PvE fights
- completely enclosed bow thrusters
- SV docking on roof (unprotected)
- HV/SV semi-protected bays on the wings: the leading edges of the wings and rounded wing tips will protect most docked vessels during PvE combat (configurable)
- complete color-coded medical bay centrally located for quick access from any of the ship's entrances (red=wound, green=poison, purple=radiation, yellow=parasite)
- bridge and crop area are separate, airtight compartments: a hull breach in the rest of the ship won't kill your crops! (and the crops are located at the back of the ship, which rarely takes damage in PvE).
- extra long ramps wherever possible, to ensure ground contact despite terrain variances
- one large constructor (upgradable)
- 6 entrances: 2 bridge, 2 wing, one side, one tail
- 4 crop plots (upgradable)
- 4 T1 fridges (upgradable)
- hand-created equipment groups
- full switching/signalling (see credits, below)
- all cargo boxes physically accessible (configurable)
- 2 harvesting boxes (for future harvesting turret addions - can be replaced if no harvesting turrets will be added)
- large fuel tank and O2 capacity for extended travel

Upgrade/configuration options:
- all Core upgrades can be done with the ship running (see instructions for Core Upgrades in Discussions)
- recommend upgrade thrusters, RCS, and fuel tanks together
- thrusters upgradable to L (XL not an available configuration)
- RCS upgradable to T2
- All but one fuel tank upgradeable to T3
- room for one T2 generator (comes with 4 T2)
- space for up to 12 in-line weapons (6 per side; 4 shown in pictures/allocated for in base config)
- many additional turret locations with minimal hull alterations--NOTE: side-mounted turrets not recommended as they will obstruct the in-line guns!
- space allocated and marked for a second constructor; original upgradable to Advanced
- space allocated and marked for a Repair Station (not included in base model due to Erestrum and Zascosium requirements)
- space allocated and marked for 16 more crop plots (20 total); note that 6 more can be added (26) by replacing the center pathway and ceiling redesign.
- space for up to 8 T2 fridges
- extended "boom" tail over/under mounts for harvesting turrets (drill and multi), to allow maximum manoeverability positioning drill turret at those hard-to-reach asteroid nodes--boom tail can be removed if no harvesting desired
- comes with 2 harvest boxes, which can easily be replaced with more ammo or cargo boxes, if no harvesting capabilities desired
- room to place a thin wall over the cargo boxes to conceal them if desired; this makes them only accessible via the Control Panel
- the wing HV docking pads could be converted to completely covered hangar bays

The Phoenix was inspired and HEAVILY influenced by jeremymtc's Bellafonte:

While I started from scratch to make the Phoenix, I shamelessly copied some of his brilliant design (including bridge switches, which I used all the time in the Bella).

If I can see farther, it's because I'm sitting on jeremymtc's GIGANTIC shoulders... I loved that ship!

@jeremyctc: I can't wait to hear your thoughts when you try it out! I tried to make it look smexy (I was going for a "fire feather" effect, like a Phoenix!), but I'm not positive I succeeded...

@Pach Great concept with the planned upgradability features - that was definitely a limitation on the Belafonte! I will try to get some play time with this soon and let you know how it goes!
