Possibly the most underrated historical Total War game (I tried playing warhammer... but it just sucks in my opinion! I'm also loving ToB inspite what everyonr says, so if you find that disturbing, swipe to another review...)
Attila has made vast improvements to the gameplay such as: siege decay, spreading fires, hoard factions etc... Also, it possibly has the best total war family tree (if you don't consider rome 2 after the improvements\3k character system) giving characters much sway to shine as they progress through the different offices (also, you can murder your own faction leader, which might make a fun takeover scenario, which I did one time)
Also, the campaign dlc are really worth you time! Telling compeling stories about the dark ages\early medieval period. The Age of Charlamagne dlc even makes a welcome return to era inspired art, such as unit cards, buildings etc... (Though they didn't give the characters any special treatment unfortunately...) Another dlc I would recommend is the desert kingdoms one: each faction there plays with unique story missions, for example: the Tanukhids conquer and liberate story, where at the end you could decide whether to incorporate those liberated factions into your own after completing a set of missions, or continue to liberate many peoples as an unrelenting hoard.
Where Attila really shines though is its many overhaul mods, perhaps the best mods since Medieval 2 (did I say that there's also a well designed overhaul mod which sets the game during the medieval period?! which is constantly being updated with vast game-changing mechanics and more?!)
There are a plethera of game overhauls, from one which brings rome 2 campaign into the game (plus some neat tidbits not avalble not present in rome 2) through the early renaissance, and also fantasy mods such as GoT and LOTR.
All in all, get the game! It's a wonderful experience to the new and old fans alike!
