Now, I originally made this review back in 2016 after the Halloween update complaining about the fact I did not have the Halloween DLC after I had bought the deluxe edition, and thinking the game was broken. Now, 7 years later and an additional 1000 more hours in the game I can say I have matured a lot but the same cannot be said about the game. Although I would not call it broken today or as buggy as other games might be, I can safely say that this game is NOT FUN. I will try to break down this review into sections where I go over different areas but the main problem this game has is without a doubt the massive differences in expectations vs reality you have when playing this game. So for an example, we can used the Halloween DLC this review initially was about. Michael Myers is my killer with the highest level and one of the most "fun" with his John Carpenter piano playing when he chases people. He was also the first licensed content this game received with Haddonfield, Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (evil himself). So when I queue up a game as "The Shape" I am expecting helplessness from survivors when I "Tier up" and go "dundundun dundundun dun dun". The reality I am faced with instead is me holding W around a loop chasing a prestige 50+ Claudette/Feng/Kate with a flashlight and Dead hard, while simultaneously watching the gen count down to 3 while being in this chase. All the while, my Tier 3 timer is ticking down and once you finally land the killing blow, it's not an insta-down and one of their so called "SWF" (survive with friends) come to help out and take hits. This ultimately leads to you as a killer and a human being after to not have fun, cause your "expectations" were not reflected in reality. Instead of seeing the survivors crumble in despair, it is you tilting at the fact that survivors are teabagging you at the exit gate. Same can be said on the other side of the spectrum. I don't mind playing survivor cause the pressure is not as high. I tend to stick to my RE survivors cause I really like Resident Evil and I think to myself "Yay, I can run around as Claire from RE2 but in a DBD setting and hopefully survive". And hopes of having fun, are immediately ruined the moment I load in to the game and hear the Nurse scream from across the map and later find out that the Nurse was a prestige 100 killer who just deletes us, SWF or not (I usually tend to play solo, reasons I will go into later). My survivor games usually end up with me getting tunneled out of the game, no matter how many gens are left, or I am the only popping gens, knowing damn well it probably wont amount to nothing cause teammates usually go down 30 seconds after the game starts. Now you might say "skill issue" or "git gud", which obviously would not surprise me (reasons I will go into later), but let me just say that this game is not my main game. Ever since I got all the achievements in the game earlier this year, I take long breaks waiting for the next time the game drops new achievements or interesting licensed stuff. For some background, I used to play this game a lot (approximately 700 hours) before they implemented the shop update and the rift. Back then was a simpler time when there was no "defined meta" every single person was using and there were also a lot less killers in the game, all of which were "fun" to play against (except nurse). This of course also went for perks. All in all, I had a good time back then grinding bloodpoints in order to get as many characters as I could to P3 level 50, which was the ultimate goal to be striving for back then. There was no shop, no battle pass and no skins to buy. All in all, a much better time with a focus on the core gameplay and not the "ingame content". When they confirmed the launch of the Rift and the store, I immediately stopped playing. My first issue was the fact that my P3 clothes would have 0 value when people could just go and buy cooler looking skins for real money. Just made all of my game time feel useless. My second issue was with implementation of the Rift. My OCD kicked in, knowing I would not be able to play this game simulatenously with the other games I was playing at the time like Dota and Overwatch. And my third, and final issue was the perks that came with the update. The perks I had in mind were Bamboozle and Pop goes the Weasel. The release of these two perks created a form of a "killer meta" where every single game you would see a killer kick a gen and boom, progress gone. Game started becoming stale, considering the fact that you already knew what perks the killer were running coming into the game. This has only worsened the years. But back then, I simply stopped playing. I then came back, 3 years later, during the Resident Evil - Nemesis chapter. Considering the fact that I recently got invested in the RE universe with RE2 remake and RE4 (OG), I was hyped. Seeing RPD, recreated pretty much as an exact copy from the original in RE2, blew my mind considering the fact how ♥♥♥♥ the graphics were in DBD back in 2016-2018. On top of that, they made the Rift revolve around Bill and the L4D lore which just was a "Chef's kiss". The "friends" I used to play DBD with had abandoned the game, so I resorted to the DBD official Discord to find people to play with. But I remember playing the ♥♥♥♥ out of the game every single game, hoping to max out the Rift (I am just gonna call it a Battle Pass cause that is what it is) in order to get Bill skin at the end. It was around this time I had the most fun to play DBD in a long time and as a seasoned veteran it was nice coming back to the game after such a long time (like a breath of fresh air). So I decided to go for the 100% as well. And... well, this is where things started to go south. Although I have met some nice people through the Discord server, I have met a superior bigger number of weirdos and degenerates. Some people are just absolute degenerates saying racial and offensive slurs in the VC, and some cannot function as normal human beings due to how sensitive they are as snowflakes. But the worst of the bunch are the no-life people that have dedicated their entire profile to DBD. How many people do you not see that have their name and profile DBD related like "Mori me daddy", "Bubba's basement" or "Hex: Hentai"? It's like, you are not funny and it's just sad. And now I know what you might be thinking: "But Arian, is that not hypocritical of you to say that when your name is literally "I'm already Tracer", a direct reference to Overwatch?" And to you I say no, cause I have had this name for over 5 years now and I don't change it out as soon as a new DBD joke name comes to mind. I personally just find it sad that some people have made this game their entire Steam profile, like being a reddit mod, even though there are so many better games to play instead of this cesspit. Not only are there Steam profiles ugly, but they also play bad when it comes to teamwork. Usually they are selfish and just there to flex their skill. If they die or we don't get a 4-man escape, no matter how many games we had "won" before, they instantly leave the call. And I think this is a good time to talk about the community. This community is probably the most toxic, racist, sexist, homophobic and sensitive community there is. No other game has such a wide spectrum of individuals, all ranging from sensitive snowflakes to the absolute bottom of the barrel on how you are as a human being. I don't know why this is, but I partly blame the Battle Pass and the store. Although these additions helped keeping the game alive with content, I have a hard time not believing that this also opened the floodgates to these degenerate individuals. Even though you might be "normal" before playing this game, you'll eventaully become toxic at the end of it. No other game can tilt me faster than this game does with my record being only after two games or 15 minutes of gameplay. And here we are talking "GG

Unfortunately, due to the size of the game and how easy Dead by Daylight can crush any competitors due to their monopoly on the assymetrical horror genre, BHVR probably wont change any of these things holding the game back. It's a shame though cause games like Video Horror Society or Friday the 13th had potential, but they simply cannot compete with the game that has almost every "killer" character from movies and video games alike. As for myself, I will probably only revisit this game if there is some cool collab going on or new achievements drop. Until then, I would stay away from this smoking pile of dog-shit. And to wrap it all up, and refer back to beginning, I will cite the following quote: "Reality is often disappointing, especially when it comes to Dead by Daylight." - Thanos 2018.

Although it is true that some aspects of the game are great, like the soundtrack or the vast cast of characters and killers you get to choose from, they simply can't make up for all the big flaws the game has, as I have stated earlier. *Chef's kiss*. That shit goes hard. The John Carpenter piano when playing as Myers or the intense chase theme of Wesker. And let's not forget the iconic menu music, especially during collabs (Attack on Titan for example) or events (Halloween). Or how this is the only game where you can play on Raccon Police Station as Michael Myers, chasing down Jill Valentine, Bill Overbeck, Ashley Williams and Cheryl Mason. Simply one of a kind.

And once again, let me touch on replayability. Even though this game has more than 30+ killers at this point and counting (too lazy to look up the exact number), you only see like 10 of them, ever. And this is because the other 20 are considered "trash" and therefore never see the "daylight". On top of that, you always see a similiar perk build with each and every one of them, focusing either on full gen regress, aura reading (high-mobility killers only) or some over-powered combo of perks and add-ons. Survivors tend to follow a similar trend (me included) where you have a combo of supp/survival and an exhaustion perk, or full gen-rush + exhaustion perk. And we are talking about maybe 10-20 perks in total here amongst the 100+ perks there are for both sides. That is not healthy balance when you constantly see Corrupt Intervention and Jolt or Lithe/Dead Hard/Sprint Burst and Prove Thyself in almost every single game.

Apparently, my reveiw is left unifinished. I will try and remember what I wrote, and continue on in the comments. But anyways here goes: "And here we are talking about "GG EZ" and "GIT GUD" + teabag at the exit gates. It's just infuriating. On the killer side, you are either tunneled or facecamped on the hook. It's just not fun at all. The cherry on top is the fact that these people are also the same people that usually have over 2000+ hours and they live and breathe DBD, nothing else. I personally have a hard time even getting 2000+ hours on one game, so I really can't understand how these people still find any "enjoyment" out of this game. Like, I play one or two games after a long break and I can already feel my braincells rotting away and the tilt-meter increasing.

Edit: My first game was against a 4500 hour Freddy who was facecamping basement and waiting for grab. Just proves my point...
