House of Ashes is an entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology.. my adventure in this kind of games continues after playing The Quarry i needed something similar and this was the obvious choice because i already had it on my library for a really long time.

House of Ashes follows a squad of marine soldiers who find themselves trapped in an ancient temple, the story revolves around their struggle to survive and find a way out. The narrative is great and i don't want to unveil too much of it but expect horror and a lot of tough choices. Simple decisions can lead to branching paths and different endings for our story.

The gameplay is simplistic ,with quick-time events where you need to press your mouse or aim your cursor to an enemy. The exploration and navigation part feels immersive, the caves and the sounds makes you feel vulnerable.

I really liked the graphics..the cinematic experience is great. With a dark lovecraftian motif..the temple and the network of caves where the shadows are at home creates a tense envinronment and perfect world design for our adventure.

Not everything is perfect, the similarities with The Quarry unfortunately are dominant in this genre..i wished for more control in combat scenarios. I was so annoyed when a single missed key lead to a character death but maybe they will fix that in future titles.

However there are some positives that really stand out and thats character development and background stories,i feel they did a good job covering those. Another thing i enjoyed is finding journal pages and the cutscenes from the past really helped to understand the origins of this story.

In conclusion this is a great narrative game that i enjoyed a lot , after playing this i'm interested in the entire anthology because even if the gameplay is not great the story alone makes it worth!
