Get ready to be roped into an exciting adventure!

Gameplay first:
Under the cover and premise of fetish fuel, there's actually a quite challenging RPG game with mechanics not seen in others. The standard formula of "bump into enemies to fight them" is expanded in this game with the possibility of stealth takedowns. They're a much needed option in this game, as the combat always takes a toll on the party. Farming/grinding is ill-advised. Over-relying on stealth takedowns and clever movement to avoid combat however can be just as detrimental, as the player can end up sorely underleveled, soft-locking the progress. A healthy balance between being sneaky and frontal assault is the best. The golden rule of RPGs: save often, save early! Combat can get really challenging and is never a cakewalk after the tutorial sequences.
The combat is largely by the book, characters have access to basic attacks, special skills and some can cast spells. However, female characters (player's and enemy alike) work slightly different. Instead of being incapacitated when their HP reaches zero, they are in a "weakened" state when their HP is below a certain threshold. They can be subdued in that state (also if they're put to sleep or stunned). Based on certain parameters, they can return to combat as long as one of them is still free. Male characters and monsters get incapacitated when their HP is depleted, no second chance for them.

Sometimes however, our party gets in way over their heads and they get captured in spite of best efforts. That's where the escape mini-game kicks in. Through a sequence of directional inputs (part QTE part rhythm game), the player has to help the heroine break free from her restrains. This feature can be leveled up either when captured by certain criminal gangs (you can allow that to happen, can be useful as it restores HP/CP) or escape training which becomes available at a certain point in the story.
Finally: doors and chests are not always opened with just a click, Seles, our main character (far more often than not) has to pick locks for the chests to spill their goods. Similar to the escape game.

The story is quite alright. A few plot-twists but mostly straightforward. The most interesting part is that despite partially falling into the "chosen one" trope, Seles, the main character, often faces odds she cannot overcome and has to make her escape. The characters themselves are pretty likable, each with a different backstory and motivation to tag along.

Visually, there is a lot of eye-candy. Vibrant, lively colors and plenty of nicely drawn CGs. Bear in mind, said CGs often involve "damsels in distress". The game is for a specific audience after all.

The sound component is a pleasant surprise, especially the music.

Edit: the long-awaited content update was a real treat. Fun side-quests, brain-busting puzzles and some delicious eye-candy. The verdict: 9.3/10 Wholeheartedly recommended!

After I got this game, I sunk in a lot of spare time into it!

And here's a review of it.
Gameplay: From the technical side, I haven't run into problems. The controls, which can be rebound if the player has different preferences, and the UI aren't problematic. Haven't run into bugs either. When it comes to the game itself, it is more or less a standard RPG which keeps some tropes but takes some tasteful jabs at other ones. The game isn't bloated with mechanics nor has an endless list of abilities. Fairly simple and intuitive. I'd like to endorse the puzzles in particular. With the exception of one, the Emerald Maze 2 , they are a really fun exercise for the player's brain. They were really interesting!

Visuals: If you are a fellow fan of vibrant, vivid and colourful designs, you'll like this game. The visual novel parts are pleasant to the eye and have just the right amount of detail. There's a minor downside to mention, the variety of facial expressions leaves a bit to be desired but... it's hardly anything major. Still notably above a mere passing grade.

Story: It's not Shakespeare... and doesn't need to be. It unfolds at a well measured pace and takes a rather interesting turn. The character dialogue is at times comical, at times tense and gets really cozy. If you don't mind some spicy jokes and rather subtle innuendo, the dialogue will amuse you.

Audio: The sound effects and music round things up nicely. They complement the experience appropriately. The voice acting is pretty charming too, to me at least. I'm no expert, but it feels quite alright.

Additional notes: It has a decent amount of replay value, given the multiple romance routes and multiple endings and has a new game+ mode. One more thing that definitely should be pointed out: a greatly balanced normal difficulty. It's done just... right. Neither feels patronizing nor punishing.
Conclusion: It's definitely a good game for people who love RPGs of this kind and a lovely jewel for fellow yuri fans. Wholeheartedly recommended!

A revisit of a review after a long time.
I used to love this game. I have put over a 1000 hours into it and I can no longer recommend it in good faith. All that time feels kind of wasted. I'll try not to write a wall of text while providing necessary information.
What's there for the senses is good. Visually it's pleasing if you don't mind or actually like anime aesthetics. The music is pretty good too.
The gameplay is a classic cover-based turn-based RPG akin to XCOM and Shadowrun, but the terrain matters more. Also, time of the day and temperature can affect certain or all characters. The game also introduces a dodge parameter, so the hit chance has to go through both its own calculation and beat the target's dodge parameter. Despite that, you'll be landing hits a lot more often than not. Over time, especially during the DLCs however, hit chances go through the roof. Around 250% chance to hit is the maximum. And then there's blocking. Even if the chance to hit beats dodge, the target could still block damage. As the damage keeps increasing exponentially, so do tanky characters get more block chance, up to 200%. Eventually, the game devolves into unhinged bazooka tag with damage being a textbook example of overkill. With the correct build, you can deliver something close to 100.000 damage... in a game where hit points peak around a few thousand. Enemies also join the game of rocket tag around the end of the base game, dealing between 8.000 and 50.000 damage. That's because the critical hit chance in the game also skyrockets to 300% give or take a few %.
Most of the time in the game you'll spend staring at a mastery spread sheet trying to make overpowered builds, which eventually become pretty much mandatory, as enemy count starts reaching 50-100+ enemies against your team which is maximally 12 members with two DLCs.
Later on, the game introduces out of turn attacks, eventually resulting in one enemy attack triggering a literal hailstorm of bullets. One enemy fired at you? Suddenly, 10 more chime in with "fire support"... in a turn-based game.

The fighting takes place during a decent variety of objectives for the first 15 missions, then it devolves into "eliminate everything that's moving". That's it. One mission type is dominating, it just comes in different minor variations.

The story is long, told in sometimes disjointed bits and pieces and leaves more loose ends than George R.R. Martin's "A song of ice and fire".

But the commitment of the developer and the community is admirable.

I had to choose between a thumbs up and thumbs down, but if there was an option, I would have picked the neutral one.

As a person who already read a bunch of girl/girl visual novels, I started this one with actually high expectations. And I'll say that they weren't met. They were exceeded by a notable margin.

The vibrant and colourful art is the most beautiful I've seen in a visual novel so far. The characters and the backgrounds show a great amount of love for detail and some images are truly striking. If I were to nitpick, I'd say that there could have been a bigger variety in facial expressions, but the writing steps in to cover for that.

For the music, I'll sum it up like this: if the OST ever becomes available for purchase, I'd be happy to own it. And while it takes a while to get adjusted to the times when the music doesn't play and the game becomes completely quiet, the music not looping actually works great against potential over-saturation. It also adds some necessary weight to the "heavier" moments of the story.

The writing is pretty engaging. It is rather focused on the events and the state of mind of the characters. Not one detail more than necessary, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. But trying to please everybody never ends well and I actually like that kind of writing in general. The one little thing I didn't really like was how quickly it all escalated. But that's rather minor, to me at least.

Closing note: Normally, I read this kind of visual novel to feel, not to think. But this one made me think and feel. An excellent, well-rounded experience.

9.8/10. I look forward to future releases!

P.S. Bonus points for setting the story outside a of school-like environment.

It'll be a laconic review, I'm afraid:
It's an adorable and wholesome story with somewhat heavy-ish moments. The characters are quite likeable, rather relatable, if a little too formal-sounding at times, but I am pretty sure it's a thing of the culture it's set in. The colourful and vibrant art is quite pleasant to the eye. The soundtrack wraps the package up neatly.

This visual novel felt like a sweet treat with slightly bitter coffee. It's also most refreshing to see the main characters being adults (we really need MORE visual novels starring adults).

Thank you, ebi-hime, and your team.
Final verdict: 9.1/10

Early Access -arvostelu
Usually, I'm rather skeptical about early access. Fortunately, I gave this game a chance regardless. Haven't run into bugs or glitches, the game hasn't crashed once nor did I get soft-locked anywhere.
While the game recommends a controller, I as a dedicated keyboard player felt at home all the same. The controls are easy to get used to and very responsive. From a technical standpoint, the game is in a very good state.

The visuals are quite pretty and most of the time, the player can easily see what's going on on the screen. I lost sight of the MC once or twice when there was a large number of monsters and projectiles, but that's just about it. Perhaps Metal Unit 11 could use a tone of a darker gray on her sprite, closer to black, so she is even more easily distinguishable.

The sound effects are also quite good, but the soundtrack seems a little lacking. It's not bad, but most of the time doesn't draw attention.

The fun factor: A large selection of weapons, allowing for multiple playstyles, the use of the dodge mechanic is quite rewarding and the variety of enemies is commendable. As for the difficulty: I know that it mostly comes down to the vision of the developer and that there are people who find even the "Hell" difficulty to be insufficient, but perhaps the game could use at least a middle option between the "normal" and "hell" difficulty. Halving your character's damage and reducing the starting HP 3 times in addition to bosses unleashing bullet hell that would do Touhou proud can feel needlessly punishing to a majority of players.

The story is clearly not finished yet, so I cannot comment on it now. Will have to update the review somewhere down the line.

Final verdict: A game with lots of potential with a small amount of content, but what is present is very enjoyable and well polished . Eagerly anticipating the final release.

I'll try to keep it short and on point:

- 12 hours in-game, didn't find bugs or glitches or other game-breaking issues.
- Plays very nicely on a keyboard, possibly even better with a controller, if it's your thing
- Decently difficult, unless the player is a) new to metroidvania-like games (in which case it could be quite hard) b) a veteran of the genre (in which case it might not be as challenging)
- vibrant and colourful visuals
- a pretty good OST
- a fairly interesting upgrade system
- a large enough pool of secondary weapons

- the weapon collection is decent, but could use a little more variety in techniques
- the starting special skills are vastly better than the unlockable ones due to the startup time (as opposed to instant startup of the starting ones)
- could use a little more conversation between Erza and her companion devil, the bits already present are quite amusing, a shame there's not more.

All in all, an 8.6/10

To start off, the game has been ported pretty well and handles very nicely on PC. The initial loading time is a bit long, but I do have a PC that classifies as old by now, so it could be that as well.
The gameplay is smooth and simple in the correct way. Hit your opponents while doing your best not to get hit. Dash-canceling attacks to avoid getting hit comes in handy especially when wielding heavier and bigger weapons, but those still need some more practice than the fast-hitting ones.
The vibrant and colourful visuals are pleasant and relaxing, providing a nice contrast to the fast-paced action. The rooms can at times get cluttered and sometimes it's a little difficult to follow what's happening on the screen, but it's more an exception than a rule.
The music doesn't stand out very much, so I can't really comment it. The voice-acting is a standard good.

As for the amount of content, I'll put it in an analogy. RemiLore isn't something the player is supposed to gorge themselves on, but more like dessert. Something nice and sweet to savor and indulge your senses with. Therefore, here's a solid 8.5/10

Additional note: The spells could use some tweaking, because some are way more useful than others. Freeze pretty much trivializes mid-boss fights and slow (as long as not overused) is extremely convenient during boss-fights, as level-end bosses cannot be frozen.

Update: two-handed swords really handle badly and feel useless. They attack just as slowly as hammers, minus the hammers' actually good damage and hit-stun.

This is possibly one of the best yuri visual novels I've read so far, and I'd love to see more from LiarSoft. There are numerous reason to recommend "Kindred spirits on the roof".
1) The characters: multi-dimensional characters. It is very difficult to elaborate on this without spoilers. Each character is shown is more than one kind of situation and they all reveal more than one side of themselves. They also display varying amounts of growth. As for character development, not everyone gets the same amount of it, but maybe one or two get somewhat neglected. Overall however, no major issues.
2) The visuals: baring the facial features, the characters don't fit into standard anime-style tropes. No spiky hair in weird colours, no aquarium-sized eyes, no exaggerated body proportions. Some CGs lack a bit of depth and appear a little flat, but are still quite pleasant to look at, particularly the colours, but the characters and backgrounds as well.
3) The sound: It gets a little repetitive over time, which given the length of the game can diminish the enjoyment some, but the tunes are overall pleasant, so it's not something to go to war over. Also, it makes Youka's song stand out all the more.
4) The most important, the writing: The situations in which the characters find themselves vary between relaxing, sweet, lively, hectic, dramatic and sometimes even a bit dangerous (by the standards of a slice-of-life visual novel). The focus does remain on the relationship building though, as it's the core element of this game. Each relationship gets sufficient spotlight and they all get their time to develop. None of them feels particularly rushed or dragged out. The multiple POV approach might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's done pretty well.

Closing note: If you like yuri, you'll love this visual novel. If not, this one might change your mind!
The verdict: 9.2/10 (One couple doesn't have a kiss CG, that's - 0.5 points)

Disclaimer: This review is mostly meant for the developer

As a long-time fan of RTS games, I am happy to see someone still contributing to the genre, especially during an ongoing drought. Also, from what I've seen so far, the game looks very promising.
1) I like the feature with upgrades coming from the captured points very much. It encourages players to move out of their base and takes the action to more than one point of the map.
2) The unit models are quite pretty and very practical-looking.
3) The maps are not needlessly cluttered and have a decent variety between urban and open spaces.

However, the game also has some glaring issues.
1) One which in my humble opinion needs urgent addressing is the pathfinding of some units, particularly the Gaia faction's Fenrir unit. Way too often, they get stuck at the factory entrance or somewhere on terrain, rendering them perfectly useless.
2) Garrisoned troops surviving the destruction of the building they're in is not plausible at all.
3) Fighter-bombers (all of them) tend to automatically choose random targets, or worse, they just fly in circles without returning to the airfield to rearm.
4) The Legion faction seems to have a massive advantage overall, with their practically non-existent production times and being able to easily swamp the opponent, especially if they clean out mercenary camps quickly.

The review is not final, and I might end up completely changing it. For now, I just thought to point out some good stuff and that which needs fixing. Keep up the good work!

Edit 1: Aircraft now doesn't forget to return and rearm at the airfield. The Fenrir however still gets stuck at the factory entrance. Which wouldn't be a major issue if it wasn't among the best early game units.
