Review Jan. 2024

I can finally positively recommend Foxhole. While it still has some bugs, it seems like the developers are finally taking on more player feedback and actually making positive steps. Facilities still suck, and there needs to be an alternative to them rather than hoping another regiment in game will help you. But at least they're not absolute cancer to build and maintain anymore so long as you don't make your facility too massive.

Cheaters and alts still exist, but they don't seem to be quite as bad as they used to be even during the Naval Warfare update war of late 2023. If the reporting function doesn't work quick enough, if at all, at least the community seems to step up more to make those people's game experience go downhill. That's just how it has to be it seems. Chinese and Russian players by and large will still spend more time harassing their own team than fighting the enemy though. Exceptions exist, but still more progress needs to be made there.

Big ups to the devs for finally banning certain toxic streamers who were contributing nothing positive to the game or community by bullying other players and even encouraging cheating. Thank you!

For new players, please please PLEASE ask other players in game for help if you don't know what you're doing, especially when doing backline logistics, facilities, or trying to prepare a tank. People will help you, and happily! You just need to be willing to listen.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

Despite the changes and attempts to fix the game with update 52, the game is still broken and spirit crushing to play. Alts and griefers will just find new ways to ruin the game and logistics is still a week long grind just to get anything above basic stuff. All the fun stuff is locked behind the 1.0 facilities still, which requires about 10 dedicated players to keep running, and finding any clans with a public or shared facility is a nightmare sometimes. Chinese and Russian players especially seem to spend more time killing their own team than the enemy.

The efforts by the developers have been too little too late, and it seems the game is dying. They seem to have moved on to working on Anvil Empires, which I expect to be plagued with many of the same problems as Foxhole. I've lost hope that this game can be fixed without going back to pre-1.0 and removing facilities, and I'll be avoiding anything made by Siege Camp at this point.

d0g sh1t game

In all seriousness, since the 1.0 Inferno release this game has become a second full-time job just to maintain your facilities and bases, depriving many players from being able to enjoy other aspects of the game. Sooner or later, you WILL get burned out from playing this. The main developers in Siege Camp have themselves admitted that they don't/barely play their own game because "It takes too much time."

Speaking of the developers, they do not listen to the community at all. Rather than fixing what already exists, they just keep pumping out new content in hopes of bringing in new players temporarily instead of assisting the existing player base. Very little is done about cheating/alting in game, with the common punishment for such things being no more than a 3 day ban, despite one act of cheating/alting could undo WEEKS of time and efforts from 20+ people. It's been getting so bad that since war 100, it's safer to shoot low rank teammates with Russian or Chinese script names and apologise later rather than wait until they do anything.

Because of the above, the game community has become incredibly toxic and territorial, as opposed to the more cooperative atmosphere of pre-1.0. It also doesn't help that a number of higher-profile Twitch streamers for the game not only encourage such toxicity, they engage in it themselves unashamedly.

Faction balance is otherwise fine in my opinion. It is the game mechanics and development team that needs a huge shakeup. Until something major happens, the only thing saving this game for me is the amazing bunch of people I play it with. I wear my regiment tag with pride.

Siege Camp, if you ever read this. Stop adding crap until the game is fixed. Either fix the game yourselves, or bring in people who can.
