9.7/10

This is a fantastic collection of games. From the writing to the structure of the many puzzles there is little to be criticized I am simply amazed by the hard work that must have gotten into making these games.

The games are part visual novel, part 3D point and click-puzzle games with an enormous emphasis on story. The two games follow a handful of people who are kidnapped and forced to play a game with their lives on the line with the purpose to escape... Or so you think hehehe.

Since the story is so complicated and important I won't go further into it. I will just say that you will HAVE to play the games a few times to get the full experience and you are heavily encouraged to do so.

The presentation is fantastic for what it is. The games function and look almost identically so I will review them as a whole. During the visual novel parts you simply click to progress and the HUD looks and functions as you would expect. If you come to a part in the story that you've already encountered you can skip through it in a matter of seconds if you want. This happens a lot and the solution works perfectly. During the puzzleparts you work in a semi-3D environment to solve different puzzles and at the same time interact with the fun characters and items around you. Works perfectly
The world is presented in exactly the right way, with environments and characters with a lot of depth and mystery behind them.

The writing is absolutely spiffing, I cannot stress this enough. I envy the writers ability to write such complex stories and still make them make sense to the player with almost zero loose ends. This is really the selling point of the game. If you want a fantastic and complex story in a style that only the Japanese people can do: look no further.

Can I say anything bad about the game? Well, they don't really look that great graphics-wise and the english voices are mediocre at best (except for Zero III omg she is so talented). Luckily you can choose to play with japanese voices and english text. Problem solved.

Onto the graphics then. These games claim to be "remastered" in this new amazing bundle. Well, yes and no. The first game looks great for what is is compared to its original DS release. The second game does not. I really feel like the developers could have put more effort into making the character-models and the "cut-scenes" look better, they still look like they were made 2003.

My conclusion is still that these are hidden gems, invaluable treasures among modern puzzle/story driven games. The may not LOOK like it, but these games are a true work of art in story-telling. They changed the way I think about time and space, the way I think when I interact with other people and my standing point of swimsuits forever. Love it
