What would happen if you crossed the OG original PS1 games of Silent Hill and Final Fantasy 7, and made the game take place in an amusement park? Crow Country!

This game took me 5 hours to complete, and I enjoyed my time with it. I didn't love it like many other reviewers, I thought it had a few shortcomings. Nonetheless, it was still an excellent game.

+ The nostalgia is on point here if you're in your late 30's or 40's and remember the old PS1 days. Beautifully made game in the graphical style of Final Fantasy 7 but in a creepy dilapidated amusement park.

+ Hauntingly beautiful musical score throughout. There is one area that actually plays like a "backrooms" liminal space area in the back of the park. It had a basic but creepy vibe that fit the atmosphere aesthetics perfectly.

+ Huge amount of secrets to uncover. Secret items, weapons, and clothing. Unlockables via beating the game under certain conditions, with grading like the Resident Evil games.

+ A plethora of interesting puzzles to uncover, and the difficulty balance is done right. No puzzle is too difficult if you read the notes and think for a minute.

+ The story is original and interesting, lots of lore and newspaper readings to pickup.

+ The enemies are well designed, gross looking, good variety.

+ The game has a full on adventure / explore mode where the enemies cannot hurt you. This is a great idea for newcomers or someone who just wants to explore the park and complete the puzzles in a relaxing manner.

- Aiming your weapon is annoying and never gets any better. This coupled with the poor camera angles at times threw the whole idea of multiple playthroughs for me out the window. The combat to me was serviceable, but not fun to play at all.

- The aerial view needs to be pulled back about 15%, long stretches of gameplay hurt my eyes. The character models are too close, the screen is too "zoomed in" on the environment.

- There are too many traps in the game, falling chandeliers, bear traps, poison sprays, glass bottles, and things swinging around to hit you. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but with with the low resolution graphics and camera angles sometimes these things hit you when its not your fault.

- Direction can be lost at times, the game world is huge, so when you find an item, it might be used far away in a very distant location. The game would have flowed better if the player tackled one area at a time. During my playthrough I was going back and forth in circles for hours. This was a tad annoying.

Overall: Solid 8 /10.
