Somewhat relevant.
Anyway, if you dont know how a game will turn out dont pre-order or go early access. Only do it when you have actual faith in the developers. Like knowing their track record from previous games made etc.
To be entirely fair, their first game was released in 2001 (Rally Trophy). It was three years until FO1, then two years more for FO2. That ends the original releases section until 2012. Flatout: Ultimate Carnage was an updated console port of FO2 and Flatout: Head On (2008) was just a PSP port of FO:UC.
2012 brought the awful Ridge Racer Ubounded published by Namco-Bandai. Based on it's confused reviewers, I'm pretty sure it was the game they were working on when Empire Interactive went under. The only actually new game they released from 2006 to 2012.
Based on the current state of Wreckfest and it's bizarre waverings between sim racer and arcade destruction racer, it looks an awful lot like it'll turn out just like Ridge Racer Unbounded, if it's completed at all.
1.) you never know when and if it will be finished... if you dont comply to this rule you cant have fun with the experience.
Did you pay 75 euro as the consoleros do for their games ? no you paid 20 or 30 ( I payed 20 ). I played over 100 hours... so for me it was a very good investment... Witcher 3 ( a GREAT game ) costed 45,- and I played about 50 hours... and now tell me again the game is bad ;-)
They released Flatout in 2004, then 2 years later in 2006 they released Flatout2. Early 2007 they announced Flatout : Ultimate Carnage, which was released later the same year. All that within 4 years.
Here's the problem, either they do have the money that they want, in which case why would they keep investing in a game that already gives them the profit they wanted? Or in the other hand, if they did mess up their planning and they just don't have the funding to keep going, what happens next? “Too bad guys, we didn't make it, here's you half-assed game.” Sounds reasonable? Nah, they wouldn't do that. Maybe in that case it would just stay in pre-alpha forever.
If the game is still in pre-alpha after 4 years of development, the game may be ready in a decade from now, if ever. Just you wait with your 35 years of gaming experience, one day you'll be buying games and won't live long enough to play the full product.
