2014 GOTY. Amazing story, music, environments, and characters. One of my favorite games of all time. Lots of replay value. I have probably 6 complete playthroughs (mostly on origin) and still haven't seen all the possible romances and endings. This is probably the last great Bioware game.

i9-9900k rtx 2080 super. playing on acer x-35 1440 p ultra wide

game looks great (except for the horrifically bad facial animations) while it runs. Frequent crashes, often forcing me to power off my PC. Now the game wont even load any save games. Apparently the game is no longer supported. Stay away in my opinion.

update for 1.0 release:

Really disappointed. It feels like nothing important has been changed or improved. The "A.I" is horrible, the combat is awful. The only thing that feels good is running down enemies while on horseback. Very janky game. When I played this game 2.5 years ago I thought it had promise. Unfortunately the game still feels the same way it did in back then.

I don't recommend the game in its current state (4/10/2020) unless you are ready to be an alpha/beta tester. The game is in very early access and has a long way to go, so if you buy now just make sure you understand that. I am having a blast with it, but many will likely get frustrated with the crashes and very long list of bugs in the game currently.

Update May 2021:
I played on this account recently after a long break from the game. I played 302 hours on this steam account and I can confidently say this game is truly in a horrible state. Power creep worse than any game I have ever played. Nearly all skilled players are gone. All that is left is new players and veteran players that are really bad but use insanely overpower ships. If you choose to play this game, set a very tight budget or better yet spend no money at all. It's best days are in the past for sure.

Around 7,000 battles in the non-steam client version of the game, plus another 2000 battles during beta testing.

Pros:

Tons of "stuff to do". If you enjoy progression and unlocking things in game this could be a good game for you. Many ships to unlock and captains to level up. There are also medium and long term campaign missions to do, all with nice rewards. So there will almost always be things to be working on.

Graphics and sound are excellent, and should run on lower end systems just fine.

Game mechanics are fairly solid, with a few odd mechanics here and there but most should have no problems learning the basics.

Developer updates the game very frequently, this is very much a living product. Bug fixes and new content arrive in small updates every 3 weeks and larger updates every few months.

The economy is fair. You can spend as much or as little as you want. The money will speed up the grind but won't make the game easier for you.


Cons:

THIS IS NOT A GAME FOR COMPETITIVE PLAYERS. There is more RNG in this game than in any other game you have played. If you are really bothered by inconsistent results this game will probably frustrate you. The design of the game is to allow players of all skill levels to compete with each other. There is no skill based matchmaker or skilled based game modes. You WILL have terrible teammates and opponents.

Community: Overall not the best. Lots of anime fans and old retired military guys. Most good players are pretty toxic, as the game becomes frustrating as you learn how to play and notice how much RNG effects everything.



TLDR: really fun, really addicting, lots of stuff to do but absolutely a casual game. If you can avoid taking it too seriously this game can offer experiences you simply cannot get anywhere else in gaming today.

took me a long time to get into it

So many different ways to kill religious nut job red necks.

I'm playing on a gtx 970 on ultra settings with a 1440 gync monitor and it is excellent. average 45 fps but it feels much smoother with the gsync. i average over 60 fps on ultra at 1080 but the 1440 looks so much better.

Once you learn the key bindings try playing with most of the HUD and notifcations off. Really fun. They took a page from bethesda's fallout and elder scrolls titles and use map features, dialouge, notes, etc to lead you to new quests and areas. No need for minimap or quest icons. Dont play on hard, it turns it into bullet sponge mode. If you want challenge leave it on normal and dont take any of the health perks.

Havent seen and ending this abrupt and unfinished since KOTR2. Shame, the first 80% of the game is really fun. Hopefully they polish it and add a meaningful ending with future updates.

Best game I have played since Witcher 3. A game I will never forget. 10/10

First attempt:

1. Killed my dog with a stray bullet trying to shoot an insane rabbit
2. Went on a grief stricken rampage, killing any animal i could find.
3. Returned to house, which was on fire.
4. Raider knocks me out next to house, and I slowly burn to death.

The end.

After all this time the game is still very buggy. I have lost many hours of progress due to game crashing. Lost a permadeath run that was around 100 hours when pirates killed me by shooting through 50 feet of rock.

Pirates still attack constantly, and sentinels are oppressive on most planets. If you can put up with the janky stuff it can be fun but it can also be very frustrating.
