Aesthetically and gameplay wise, Dead Cells is a solid to very good rogue-like, metroidvania-style game.

However, there is no real sense of progression or story, no real worldbuilding or "sense of wonder" in the world (see Hollow Knight) and way too many "funny" references to many other games in this genre that get old very quickly and add very little to the game.

The thing that bothers me the most about this game however, is the constant "dead ends" you run into that very blatantly tell you "Buy this DLC to go further!". This is frustrating, makes me feel pressured to invest more money and all-in-all gives the game a feeling of being unfinished.
