The combat is fun, especially once you get through the story and start raising the difficulty. The item/set variety leads to wildly divergent builds, and taking them out into this fast-paced chaotic backdrops keeps the loop engaging.

That being said, engaging has a shelf-life and especially as a "live service" game...they could do with a few updates. At the time of writing this there hasn't been a major update, with Joker coming at the end of March. A new game mode/mission-type, goal, story element....those are definitely needed to give the life blood pumping.

Still, this was a great game. I'm annoyed at the crusade that was launched to bury it because the story, the main thing I was hearing complaints about, was fantastic. It's full of dark, nihilistic humor that jives with this motley crew of anti-heroes balancing their self-interests with the impossible odds stacked against them. Yeah, Captain Boomerang taking on Superman doesn't make any sense...and that's the fun of it. It's an uphill battle with no reasonable path to victory, and that was different and, if you can embrace the amoral-ness of it, kinda endearing.

As for "politics", I really didn't see it. There's a rainbow sign in the Hall of Justice that says "We Welcome All Heroes", but even that's played as part of the false, saccharine image the heroes try to present to the world. Brainiac doesn't mind-control them, just tweaks a few of their darker impulses...that's closer to the real dark message/politics of the game.

Anyone who rails against this game for being "too woke" just reveals themselves to be another anger lemming, who either didn't actually play through the game or didn't understand what they were being beaten over the head with.

Either way it's a shame, because rallying to get this game to fail will just mean companies will stop taking a risk on known IP games with this level of quality voice work, the cut-scenes, and a polished combat engine.

I really hope we can all get back to just playing games and leaving the big political crusades out of it.
