I struggled to get to the end of this game in my ten minute playthrough. I knew something sublime (or not) was going to happen. It's odd how struggle can bond humans to living things, regardless of what it is, despite the creature, the struggle is always the same. We're all just here because we are. I got to the end and found my vision out of focus, tears rolling down my cheeks. Twenty plus years of gaming, and I've never encountered a game that struck me so emotionally.

After 70 plus hours in this game, I can confidently admit the game is broken. I can't recommend it in its current state. The game is dazzling to look at, and the sound design is nothing short of incredible with my Soundblaster Z sound card. The feel of the tracks are authentic, making it as if I'm really there. However, the game has a fatal flaw, which results in frustration and ultimate dissatisfaction. The penalty system in the game is simply too stringent. Codemasters said the issue was fixed in F1 2013, but it makes me wonder why they don't patch/fix the issue in this game.

There is nothing more frustrating than to be trapped in a group of cars bunched in a corner, and getting a drive through penalty for "illegal blocking." Or a car driven by the AI bumping up against you, and acquiring another drive through penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior. I just spent an hour and a half in a race with 28 laps to go, and accrued two such flags in one lap. That pretty much guaranteed a last place finish. This needs to be fixed.

Flicking the wipers to the highest setting as the rain picks up, glancing over to the transit bus overtaking me on the left side. The driver should know better, is my first thought. The bus smooths by, interior lights on. And then my life changes.

I see a blond woman. She’s standing up looking down at the seat next to her. A magazine maybe? Arranging luggage for her destination? I have no clue, and no interest until she raises her head and looks over at me through the rain-streaked glass. I’m suddenly catapulted. And consciously, I shoot a look down to my impending gut, truck stop food, and too many hours sitting behind the wheel. I let the bus proceed by, I’ll follow it. Me, one of the many, the mass of men who live their lives in quiet desperation. Just maybe there is something to fate and this blond on a bus.

I sling into the right lane, my eyes focused on the cinnamon red of the bus tail lights. Cars pass me by and begin to separate us. The gray sky turns to dark gray and then to night. Traffic slows as we enter the toll both that signals our passage into Italy. I creep up to the toll machine and cast my money, all the while watching the bus several vehicle lengths away. I jam the gears to make traction to no avail. The rain becomes torrential, the bus’s taillights become red smears.

I mash the gas pedal. It’s not long before I see siren lights flaming my rear view mirror. I glance at my speedometer. Yeah, he got me. It’s raining, he’s going to be pissed. I signal to the shoulder and watch the bus’s taillights become miniscule red hot candy.

All of this as an American truck driver getting to listen to European trance music and immerse in 1440P resolution whilst in pajamas. PC gaming does not get any better than this.

Easy to learn, not hard to master, and as addicting as chocolate crack. Pick it up so we can pounce each other!

Not for the squeamish or the faint of heart. This is Company of Heroes played as a first person shooter. Ugly graphics, unpolished mechanics, and hard as hell. This makes Call of Duty play like a demo for a mobile phone game. Veterans here will ignore you and enemy veterans will steamroll you. But when you've earned your keep, you're in.
