TLDR: Hunt Showdown is not only my favorite extraction shooter, but my favorite fps of all time. It's an acquired taste, but one that is worth the dedication.

Hunt Showdown isn't like any other extraction shooter out there. It's a game for people who like the intensity of a game that asks you to be present and aware. The one thing I think that makes Hunt unique is that it keeps the goal of a match focused by distilling the looting aspect into a singular bounty over which all hunters are fighting. This makes the game more about approach, gunplay, knowledge and exectution, more than micromanaging gear.

Beyond this, the games focus on older firearms means this isn't a game where spray and pray is dominant. Taking a split second to line up a shot can pay off immensely.

It should be noted, that because of the excellent attention to the soundscape of the game, Hunt is one of the best examples of audio as gameplay. Almost every sound in the game has a purpose of conveying information to the player, as such it's a game where you need to immerse youself in it's horrifying world if you want the best chance to come out on top.
