This game is dripping with atmosphere. The setting and time period (Late 1800 Louisiana) are unique in the world of shooters. It also is much slower paced, with a heavy emphasis on positioning and listening rather than twitch shooting.

Speaking of listening, the audio is truly what makes this game special. You can hear gun shots across the map, judge distance and type of weapon, and use that info to plan your advance. Crows, dying horses, and zombies litter the landscape, all making noise and giving away your position. Sound cues are just, if not more important, than visual cues. Make sure you have a nice headset.

The learning curve is less a curve and more a brick wall. It can be extremely punishing. I highly recommend new players watch a guide or head into the bayou with a more experienced hunter (the Hunt Discord is great for this). The game does suffer from a few bugs and jankiness, but nothing game breaking. The developers are also very responsive and committed.

Once you get over the initial hurdle, hunting in the swamps with a couple friends has given me some of my favorite gaming experiences in the past few years.
