Starfield is disappointing and feels broken in so many ways that I don't see how it can be fixed.

Inventory. Think about the worst inventory system you've ever seen, then slam your hand in a car door. It's worse than that. What makes it even more awful is that you cannot escape spending vast amounts of time dealing with it.

Exploration is largely by fast travel. You don't get the seamless travel of Skyrim, where you could "head North" to see what is over the next mountain. It breaks immersion and, frankly, gets pretty annoying.

Design of the locations is uninspired to say the least. Expect deja vu as you enter "generic cave/ base" for the Nth time. The first few planets you visit are pretty good- though they do get samey after a while. Having fewer, more detailed, planets would have helped with this and the fast travel issue.

Maps. Where do I start with this? They are awful, planet maps especially- good luck finding the coastline. Everything is more work than it needs to be as a result.

Base building on planets. More work and no fun.

Ship building. Fiddly, and requires levelling. This is a high point of the game, which is pretty damning.

Combat. Barely acceptable. The enemies are not challenging and love to charge into a bulletstorm. Ship combat is ok.

Characters. I can't say I noticed them, but that might just be my playstyle.

Quests. Soooo many "go to A, speak to X, go to B, pick up Y, go to C etc etc". Nothing stands out in my memory.

Performance. on an I7 8700k, 3060ti at 1440p was decent, even on release day. That was a pleasant surprise.

To be fair, I didn't complete it and haven't seen the entire game. On the other hand, it's one of the few "big" games I haven't bothered completing, which is telling.

Many of the issues above are not fixable, either by patching or DLC.
