Having just finished Stormblood and having started playing this game in April, I can genuinely say this has ruined my life and I love it. There's so much going on on this game and with the new expansion coming out it's got so much life to it. I feel that the base game only gets better as you hit expansions, so definitely pick it up if you're after a fantastic story in an interesting world.
Also there's like a ton of cool mounts and glam items, glam is the end game.
