A great effort from Mob that tries more dynamic scares over the quite rigid ones of the past, taking a page from Alien Isolation with Yarnaby, the best puzzles in the series so far with more riddles, major improvements for quality of life and a less linear feeling level design.

Its got about as many bugs as you'd expect for day one, but much less annoying now that you have the ability to load back to any previous checkpoints, and was never game breaking for me.

Besides a few pretty mediocre reveals, the writing is solid, they didn't backout on the logical conclusions of the lore, giving us a new look at the deepest parts of Playtime Co and a nice balance of tones between the two villains. Loved the little details left around and the small stories left in notes are much easier to follow than in previous entries (Especially now that they're highlighted). And once again the animations are wonderful.
It could have done with some more minor scares (The type you just barely notice enough to scare you), and less heavy-handed tutorials, especially when it comes to boss fights. Some of the characters are pretty non-existent and could've done with being used in another chapter.
And just embrace making parts of the game harder, have enemies one hit kill you.

It's not 'Chapter Three: Part Two' but is another unique chapter that tries new mechanics and doesn't waste time rehashing what's already been done by the series.
I just hope the negativity doesn't deter Mob from trying to do more ambitious things with the series.

Mod support gone :( expected but still sad

On an actual note, the inclusion of secret bot games has kind of ruined playing this game in casual for me.

Pretty good for a short showcase, the monster designs are neat and greatly utilised in their animations.
Don't know if I quite care for the AI watch though, its lack of personality makes it feel like an emergency exposition button.
But the mascots managed to feel distinct in this saturated genre, which is already a step up.

This game's biggest failing is a few tweaks away from being good, and that's in its monster chase where, on a smaller note, the objective isn't made clear (Show the player how to interact with the puzzle, or that it's interactable at all before you put them under pressure), but primarily the monster is just too easy to cheese. You need some pressure, whether it's a time limit, or the monster slowly ramping up in speed, or taking away a player's comfort. In this case, the comfort was the ability to loop the monster around with ease and knowing that was always an option just killed the tension of the scene.
The jumpscare is well designed, I just never felt like I was in any danger of even seeing it.

But, given some more playtesting, this could be a great mascot horror title, and I think the current animation quality shows there's something good here.

Far more mixed than not recommending. Its free, so give it a try, just temper your expectations from the overwhelmingly positive score.
Indigo Park has an adorable mascot that carries the game, but it does the minimum in having unique gameplay or even executing rehashed gameplay with the same level of polish as other titles.

The scares are a mixed bag. The best small scares, imo, are ones that a player might not notice, of which there are a few. But the moment the game has a Garten-Of-Banban-Esque 'bird peeking around a door + stinger', it just broke me out of it and did so with none of the subtlety that the previous small scare did after the train ride on the cameras. This game also had random stingers play for no reason while simply walking around from the very start.
And if you've played mascot horror games in a similar vein, this game will hardly surprise you in its latter half (Though the credit song is a total vibe).
I would take slower and more puzzle-like encounters over rehashing the same chase scene we've seen in mascot horror for years now.
And unless there's a lore reason later on for these animatronics to bleed, it just looks tacky

I have hope that the next chapter will be more, as this essentially just a demo, but currently Rambley's charm is doing 90% of the heavy lifting for this game.
I'm excited to see what's done with Salem's character especially and look forward to hopefully being surprised by chapter two.

This review may or may not have been influenced by our beloved friend Catnap

A great shift towards more analogue horror if you can accept the premise of large toy monsters (Absolutely check out the RESTRICTED series of videos that were released leading up to this game), while never dwelling on a mechanic too long and managing to find a good balance between introducing new ones and incorporating them into scares and chases.
Animations are peak as always. The score is used sparingly enough but great throughout. And the Smiling Critters Cartoon is just a perfect opening hook.

This chapter gave me hope that Mob Entertainment won't compromise their game for the sake of appealing to kids, and actually pulling through on its concept with the type of horror it requires.
And in a genre where key lore moments are usually obscured and only implied, Poppy Playtime's is both vague enough to leave you wondering while still letting us peek just enough to have a firm grasp on the important events.
The analogue style works well to create self-imagined horror out of the blanks, complimenting the chases and scares with an atmosphere of unimaginable and countless other unseen horrors.

Do yourself a favor and experience it blind if you're on the fence, it'll be far more engaging than viewing it through Youtube either way.

Nearly everything in Overwatch 2 is a downgrade, from the switch to 5V5 making the game both more frustrating in solo queue and less interesting in a party alongside the erosion of tanking, to the progression being a paid feature retroactively making all of Overwatch 1's collecting gone and the removal of defining multiplayer-FPS maps of the 2010s like Hanamura & Volskaya.
Its garbage content salvaged for Kotick & Activision-Blizzard to milk every last drop out of the dumpster that was Overwatch 2's development.

Blizzard learned their lesson from WoW Classic when they cried because people would rather play the defining game from 2004 than settle for their watered down live version.
The original game that was so critically acclaimed (An overstatement in retrospect imo) is now lost, and this is what remains. Without dedicated server support, Blizzard get the final say, and as long as people settle their greed will continue to infest and ruin their genuinely good IPs.
OW1 won't be the last defining multiplayer title lost to time.

The original game had a mountain of problems, but at least, at its core, it was a unique FPS that could be full of teamwork and counterplay. Overwatch 2 lacks any of the teamplay that set Overwatch apart, while being devoid of anything resembling good movement or gunplay that more individual-focused hero shooters, such as Apex, has.
I had far more fun during Overwatch 1's 'maintenance mode' than I have during Overwatch 2, More content does not mean better, especially when its as half-baked as most of Overwatch 2's additions.

Overwatch 2 is just another attempt from Blizzard to force fans to settle for mediocrity for the sake of their own greed.
A complete and total waste.

The video game equivalent of eating a McDonalds cheeseburger you found in the dumpster.

You might enjoy it a little, but sooner or later, you'll find some rot, whether its terrible optimisation, abysmal netcode or sloppy design, PUBG, at its best, is a janky and somewhat chaotic battle royale where anything can happen, but the sheer inconsistency in basics like map-size (From 1x1km to 8x8km) to weapon additions make the lack of intent in its design blindingly obvious.

At its worst, its one of the most time-wasting battle royales, where you can go 20-30 minutes without encountering a single player, only to die in a gunfight that lasts 10 seconds, because your opponent was sat still in a building for the past 10 minutes because the game had given them zero incentive to move. When the biggest incentive to not camp for up to 15 minutes at a time is your own mind-numbing boredom, that's not 'get good', that's just bad design.
And that's not even to mention the offensively corpo 'art style', if you could even call it that, which gives Fortnite a run for its money when it comes to being so soulless. Patches of slightly interesting artistic design are slapped over with some of the worst product placement in gaming history.

This game has its fun moments that are worth playing for, but it will disappoint if you invest yourself further than just a few games every now and then.
Nothing about this game's desperate out-of-game design deserves a penny, and what praise there is for the in-game mechanics are hard to fully enjoy when the frequent walking-sim matches deprive you of experiencing them fully.

Where are the updates

For note, there was one update in 2020, one update in 2021.
The single dev has spent a bunch of time working on other projects. Would have been fine had they not charged $20 for what was expected to be a full game.

Do not buy this game.
If you are so desperate, go get version 23 somewhere and play with some friends (I highly recommend Gold Central by InvaderMoo). This is not worth the insane price for such little development.
Don't let the Devolver tag deceive you, the dev does not deserve your $20 to provide the bare minimum of half baked content.
Its a hype-trap, exciting for what the game 'could' be, but the lack of updates seem to indicate the dev has no intention of really putting their full force into making it happen.

I pray for the day that the concept for this game is just modded into something more stable than this. This concept deserves better.

How deep is the live service rot that EA thought removing 2-player parties would be a fun seasonal thing?
It was a core mode for years, don't just delete it to make space for a new limited time mode.

Let me play games without worrying the things I like will just vanish in two months to make room for seasonal content
