Factorio is one of the best games I've ever played. Its gameplay loop is incredibly engaging and rewarding, while it also teaches anyone about interesting concepts that are usually part only of engineering sciences, such as concurrency, parallelism, bottlenecks, refactoring or even scalability.

Factorio also provides some action-packed gameplay, when playing on the Deathworld setting, where aliens are expanding and evolving at an alarming pace, and the player needs to stay on their toes and expand carefully. It has a bit of a tower-defense vibe to it, while also allowing players to use many technologies, weapons and tools to clear alien bases in a skillful manner.

Since the release of the 1.0, the game is clearly polished enough and would, in my opinion, be interesting for anyone, regardless of how interested they are in engineering principles. If you're not sure you will like the game, there is a free demo which lets you play through 5 missions of increasing complexity to teach you the basics. Also, playing the game with a friend will probably make it much more fun for a new player to discover the game mechanics.

Listening to old Red Alert soundtracks while playing this game make it even better.
