Unturned has some glaring issues, both with gameplay and performance, but continues to be an essential cornerstone in the valley of Rust-esque PVP survival games.

As far as free games go, this one gave me hundreds of hours of goofs, gafs, raids, heartbreaks, triumphs, friendly interactions, and fond memories.

Unturned has ostensibly 0, but in reality just a tiny smidge of pay to win elements.
Specifically if you have the $5 Gold upgrade, you are able to change your playermodel's skin to any RGB value, so some players will set their skin to the exact colour of the grass on whatever map they're currently playing.
This technique in conjunction with community market cosmetics that approximate the grass colour (a full set that works on most maps usually costs less than a dollar, but can cost up to 5 or so USD depending on how thorough you want to be) allows players with some pocket change to be wearing full miltary armour + endgame tier backpack while visibly appearing to be wearing only a t shirt and shorts, and being very well camouflaged around grass, far more than would otherwise be possible.
Thankfully though, this is the only P2W element in the entire game. In every other aspect this is a perfect F2P game, and I should mention that many players actually do the polar opposite of this strategy, instead wearing expensive, colourful cosmetics with animated particle effects, even when playing PVP, which puts them at a stark disadvantage in certain situations.

In any case, this game is excellent, and I hope the sequel lives up to it.
