The hours probably say a lot. This is one of the world's greatest and most overlooked shooters.

The fact that I'm halfway through the free weekend and have played 11 hours should say a lot. This game is TREMENDOUS fun, but it is slow, and you need to be ready for that. It IS a hiking simulator, trust me there, but with a good squad leader this is minimal.

Unfortunately, good squad leaders seem to be in short supply. Fortunately, I am a good squad leader, as it turns out (Top squad score is 19,000, next best I've seen is 13,000). It's up to your squad leader to give you temporary "Rally point" spawns, and all squad leaders to set up a network of "FOB"s, for your whole team to spawn at (which can also have deployables, like sandbags and HMGs). However, it requires the squad to work together. Squad members near to be near their Squad Leader for him to drop a Rally Point, even more to drop an FOB. Squad Leaders can designate deployables, but Squad Members are the ones who have to actually build them. Squads can only enter vehicles if several squad members are about, to stop lone wolves running off with very valuable vehicles.

This game is trash unless you have a good squad. But given the game is indeed called Squad, you should already know that.

Absolutely not worth £10. Google it, get it from Game Jolt, or play it on Kongregate. Fun to mess about with, I'm damn glad I got it on a bundle though.

Updated Review (03 Jun, 2018): This game has come on a long way, and still features one of the best crafting systems in a survival game that I've come across. However, it still lacks a feel of anything to do... Maybe because it's a big, open, empty world (of course, you're stranded!), but doing anything at all feels pointless as a result. Given your only goal at all is to "survive", there's no reason to do anything else. The majority of things you can do either make it easier to survive, or exist purely for cosmetic purposes (notably, brick buildings). IF you like doing nothing for nothing's sake, go for it, this will be fun. But for everyone else, pass.

Original Review (24 Feb, 2016): Currently, not recommended. It could be good and I love the setting, but, there's just nothing to do...

Lethal League is unique, as far as I’m aware. It is, at heart, a fighting game that got confused somewhere along the line and wondered what it would be like if it was Pong. There are a set of characters, each with a unique move set, and their sole method of attack is manipulating a ball so that it hits their opponent. Every hit of the ball makes it faster and, thus, harder to avoid or hit back. Each player has a set of lives, one of which is lost each time they are knocked out by the ball. Once your life counter hits zero, you’re out, until only one player (or team) remains.

You get to be a podgy viking who goes round saving all his podgy viking chums who are apparently ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless. Meanwhile, you're an effectively immortal demigod raising an army to fight another army of podgy people who are evil, for reasons I skimmed over. Your tasks will consist of going to various locations in the realm, mostly without fast travel, to rescue soldiers for the big final battle. Did I mention there are dragons? You can command them in the final battle. But, like, only once or twice. Then they go away forever.

I recently remembered I had a Desura account, and so moved the few games I had on it over to Steam. I decided to install and fire this up for a quick play around and was astounded to find anyone at all playing this game. Admittedly, it was only about 10 or so, but hey, that's more than I saw a few years back on this game!

The game is fun with friends, if a bit simple. The simple gist is one person plays as a giant reptile who needs to weave through a maze, destroying buildings to keep his health up, whilst the majority of players try to kill him using a wide assortment of vehicles and a few try to save him with their healing guns.

Unfortunately, this is as far as the game goes, and the only real novelty you'll have on it after playing as the Omegadon and fighting the Omegalodon (and there is no fun in being a healer, honestly) is discovering the many different vehicles... Even though the majority of them are weaponless and so pretty much useless.

Playing as the Omegalodon is fun the first time, if dull. The rounds are long and it takes a lot to kill you, so for the most part you will just be following a set path, smashing some buildings and taking swipes at people in helicopters. Honestly, it gets a bit dull.

Playing as a soldier or policeman, you'll find yourself instantly dashing to the nearest armed vehicle and following the Omegalodon in relative safety, plinking away at its health. That's it.

For sake of completion, the Enviros, the players who try to keep Omegalodon alive, are armed with healing guns and can use vehicles to stop the military and police.

Due to the third person view and very free control scheme, there's not much in the way of tactics, and more often than not the Omegalodon will win because the other players have more fun just killing each other since it's more of a challenge. As a sandbox game, Omegalodon excels, but for its purpose, not so much.

DESPITE this seemingly slamming review, it is fun! I enjoy it! But I cannot believe that they're asking for £7 to buy it! It is a game you'll play maybe once, and I know newer games you can buy for less than this that will keep you entertained for longer. If it's on sale for say, £3.50, it might be worth getting it so you and a few friends can have a jaunt. But otherwise, this is too much money for a game with little content.

I so badly wanted this game to be good. I loved Populous, and I've been vaguely following this for a while. On seeing it available for a mere £3.50 elsewhere, I thought, "This is gonna be a steal."

How wrong I was. And let me make this clear, a full asking price of £15 is an absolute, utter, complete rip-off.

What you are buying is a mobile game. This is not a PC game. Yes, they've TRIED to adapt it to the PC... The gems, which you would clearly pay money for on your mobile device, have alternative ways of being attained, through sacrificing followers, or doing voyages (puzzle missions). But you still have to sit around for hours on end for them to build things, checking frequently to collect items by tapping... Uh, CLICKING on them, forming the core function for why anything gets done.

I guess the premise of the game is cool, and definitely brought me to playing it. You drag land to make it suitable to be built on. Your people can only navigate certain terrain and rely on you to make a clear path.

But it reeks of mobile game syndrome. Almost every single action costs "belief" (energy), which recharges over real life time. This is only made worse by the fact that although you have an uncapped amount of belief, you still have to collect it from each individual household your people build, which DO have maximum caps, varying on the type of house. That means your early game houses, making maybe 70 belief per hour, max out at 40. You can see the problem here, if you want to make progress whilst doing other things.

And otherwise, I don't yet see any real reason to play. All you do is sculpt land to expand and repeat. There doesn't seem to be any real goal. The voyages (missions) are straightforward and irritating, especially when the final idiot villager you needed to reach the checkpoint decides to go back to the start because you were half a second too slow molding the land, meaning you have to wait (a significant amount of time in real life) for those villagers to respawn so you can complete the mission.

I will probably keep playing, for a little while. But honestly, even paying £3.50, this was a rip-off. You might as well just go play Tiny Tower. Or, if you want a really fun PC adapted mobile game, try New Star Soccer! This game has so much work to be done if it's to become a PC game.

EDIT: I've played this more to give it a better shot, and my only additional comment is, the path finding is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, it makes the voyages (missions) impossible sometimes.
