There are an infinite amount of ways to play. This game is heavily tuned around the rules of "risk vs reward" due to the nature of its PVP=Always on style. Pirates sail these waters, of course! So don't let the more seasoned ones catch you with your pants down before you sell your loot! Otherwise that could be hours down the drain.
Here is my unconventional to-do list:
1) Drink Grog
2) play music, in harmony with other players. There are 4 instruments to choose from. This has been a favorite mechanic of mine.
3) shoot yourself out of a cannon.
4)shoot your pet animals out of cannons
5) Go fishing, there's a lot of fishing to do
6) Set up a beautiful fireworks show using the 4 cannons of your galleon
7) Sneak onto other unsuspecting players ships to troll them
8) Viking Funeral (the only proper way to bid your friends goodbye when the session is over, usually includes music)
9) Maroon your annoying friend on an Island (no worries they can teleport back.. eventually)
10) put annoying/ troll crew mates in the brig
11) throw vomit on your enemies. This temporarily blinds them.
12) Name your ship and give it a shiny paint job suited to your liking.
13) eat worms
14) join secret clubs (may or may not be evil, you decide)
15) console a box going through a bad breakup as it tries to sink your ship with it's tears
16) Play ring around the Rosie in a pit of volcanoes. Winner is the one that doesn't get hit by falling rocks.
17) 360 noscope
18) Parkour
19) Set up explosive traps for your enemies (or friends!)
20) Learn who glitter-beard is. Read all of the books you find about him, and do his quest. This is one of, if not the rarest award in the game. It is well worth doing (don't spoil it for yourself. Just read the books in game. You'll eventually find your first clue, and by that point of experience you'll be able to see why it is so beloved.)
